Janet E. Weaver

April 13, 1933 to July 14, 2015

FRANCESVILLE - Janet E. Weaver, 82, of Francesville, passed away at 1:40 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, at Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer.

She was born April 13, 1933 in Lafayette, to the late Ernest and Luceille Westphal Cords. On Oct. 17, 1959, she married Charles A. "Bud" Weaver. He preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 2013.

Mrs. Weaver  grew up in the Methodist church. She had worked at Avco Finance in Winamac and went on to work as a bank teller at People's State Bank in Francesville for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, cooking, shopping, and collecting. She was a loving wife and mother. She will be sadly missed.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 22, at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville, with Pastor William McNabney officiating. Burial of cremated remains will follow services.

Memorial donations may be given to to the funeral home.

Betty M. Daugherty

January 11, 1923 to July 14, 2015

WINAMAC - Betty Maxine Daugherty, 92, Sebring, FL, passed away at 4:45 p.m.,Tuesday, July 14, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 11, 1923, in Rochester, to the late Chester and Blanche Archer Ricks.

A former resident of Winamac, Mrs. Daugherty moved to Florida 1969. She was a former real estate broker and sales agent. She enjoyed bowling and had been on a bowling team.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac, with Pastor Vincent Button officiating. Burial will follow.

Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Phyllis A. Good

August 11, 1929 to July 9, 2015

WINAMAC - Phyllis Audrey Good, 85, of Indianola, IA (formerly of Winamac), died Thursday, July 9, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Indianola.

She was born Aug. 11, 1929, near Star City, to the late Russell Clifford and Thelma Elcina Hoover Bonnell. She married Kenneth O. Good on Sept. 28, 1947, in rural Pulaski County. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Lynn (Steve) Hakeman of Indianola, and Martha (Phil Slade) Winegarden of Solon, and one son, John (fiancé Stephanie Fox) of Boise; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Jamie) Bradfield; Kristine Winegarden; Molly (Travis) Wright; Heidi (Bryan) Labertew; and Kathryn (fiancé Steve Garcia) Winegarden; five great grandchildren, Elaina, Max, Keira, Lauren and Talia; sister-in-law Edna Bonnell of Winamac; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a brother Leon Bonnell, sisters Donna Wright and Marilyn Chun, and brother-in-law Alex Chun.

Mrs. Good graduated as salutatorian from Pulaski High School in 1947. She later attended business school and after her children were grown, earned a B.A. degree (summa cum laude) in sociology/psychology from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA. Over the years the couple made their home in Boise, ID, Humboldt, IA, Winamac, and Horseshoe Bend, AR before moving to Indianola in March of 2015.

Mrs. Good spent much of her early married life as a homemaker and raising her family. She later was employed with Planned Parenthood and as an admissions counselor for Buena Vista College. In addition to her devotion to family, she was an avid bridge player and enjoyed reading, music, playing the French horn, gardening, and genealogy, fulfilling her love of writing by producing volumes of family history.

Burial of cremated remains will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Pulaski Presbyterian Cemetery in Pulaski. A gathering of celebration will follow at 2:30 p.m., at Moss Creek Golf Course, Winamac.

Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Planned Parenthood.

Ricky L. Hagen

October 22, 1961 to june 29, 2015

WINAMAC - Ricky Lee "Chief" Hagen, 53, passed away at 1:21 p.m., June 29, at his residence in Winamac.

He was born Oct. 22, 1961 in Logansport to Freddie Junior Hagen and Dorothy Stellter Hagen. On June 14, 1980, he married Kathi Riley. They had a daughter Mia together. On Aug. 5, 1988 he married Cynthia Marsh Hagen who had three sons, Joe, Erik and Daniel from a previous marriage, and later they had a daughter Hope of their own.

Mr. Hagen was employed at Good Oil Company for several years. He also worked at the Star City grain elevator. He also worked at McGrath Refrigeration and at Richard Gumz Farms, and doing odd jobs until it was time to retire. He will always be remembered as “Mr. Fix It!.” He was always using his hands building something every day. He loved being with his family, going hunting and fishing and shooting guns. All his grandchildren will always remember their tractor rides on Papa Rick's blue tractor. He loved to walk around his property looking at everything that he and Cindy had worked so hard to build.

His motto was “It’s my way or the highway!” Ricky and Cindy had 26 years together, they raised their children their own ways. They always managed to get through what life threw at them, and this is the lesson their children learned from them. Ricky and Cindy always believed they needed to keep going and never give up. Ricky fought to the end until he couldn’t fight anymore.

Mr. Hagen donated his remains to an organization called “A Gift of Hope” to help others have a chance to have another day with their loved ones. The family stated, "We are very grateful to have had such a strong father and husband who will still be helping others with his generous gift. Life has no manual especially when a loved one has cancer. Ricky always showed us that if we just believed and fight every day that things would be alright. He fought very hard to keep going until the end. He loved his wife, his children, grandchildren, his family and his friends very dearly. We all loved him very much and we always will. We will miss you Ricky until we will see you again one day."

A celebration of life service will be scheduled at later date.

Cheryl L. Mulcare

March 8, 1968 to July 8, 2015

WINAMAC - Cheryl Lynn Mulcare, 47, Winamac, passed away at 7:44 p.m.,  Wednesday, July 8, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.

She was born March 8, 1968, in Winamac, to Larry and Geneva Hines Shidler. She  married Paul Joseph Mulcare on Jan. 8, 1993, in Winamac. He passed away Feb. 15, 2015.

Mrs. Mulcare loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing bingo, working crossword puzzles, and collecting frogs. She was a former employee of the South 40 and the Colonial Inn.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., Monday,  at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., (Monday, July 13), at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be given to to the funeral home to help cover funeral expenses.

Joseph E. Scott

March 27, 1928 to July 9, 2015

WINAMAC - Joseph E. Scott, 87, Winamac, passed away at 12:18 p.m., Thursday, July 9, at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac.

He was born March 27, 1928, in Columbia City, to Archie A. and Ruth A. Beers Scott. He first married Helen Louise Ludwick on Feb. 8, 1951,  at Ormas, IN. She passed away Dec. 22, 1964. He then married Marilyn W. Wolfe Holley on June 9, 1974, at Chesterton. She passed away Feb. 14, 1997.

Mr. Scott was a former resident of Walkerton, moving to Winamac in 1981. He also resided in Atmore, AL. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Grand Trunk Western Railroad. He also was a carpenter and built five homes for his family to live. After his retirement, he discovered "rock hounding" (gems and minerals) and learned how to make jewelry. He did many presentations to schools and groups. He also taught faceting. He was a member of the American Legion, Midwest Faceter's Society, Faceter Forum Society, Panhandle Gem & Mineral Society, and the Peru Gem & Mineral Society.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon (Tuesday, July 14), at the funeral home with Rev. Nelda Seger officiating. A graveside service and burial will be  at 3 p.m., Tuesday in Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell, IN.

Memorial donations may be given to Riley Children's Hospital.
