Robert Dahlquist

October 17, 1926 to February 17,  2015

MEDARYVILLE - Robert Dahlquist, 88, of Medaryville, died Feb. 17, at his home.

Private burial will be at White Post Cemetery, Medaryville.

Memorial donations may be made to White Post Cemetery.

Thomas L. Blinn

July 30, 1934 to February 23, 2015

WINAMAC - Thomas Luther Blinn, 80, of Winamac, died Monday evening, Feb. 23, at the University of Arizona Medical Center, Tucson, AZ. 

He was born July 30, 1934 on his family’s farm outside Star City, in Van Buren Township, to the late Luther A. and P. May House Blinn. He married Charlotte C. Haselby on March 20, 1960. She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter Lore (Randy) Gibson and grandchildren Maia Gibson and James Gibson of Lafayette and stepsister Marie Brown of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mike Blinn, and granddaughters Susanna, Corinne and Emme Gibson.

Upon graduation from Star City High School in 1952, Mr. Blinn earned a B.S. in agricultural economics from Purdue University in 1956. He served his country during peacetime in the U.S. Army for two years. Following his father and grandfather as a farmer, he took great pride in bettering his family's life and contributing to feed the world. For 30 years, in addition to farming, he worked as a salesman for Pioneer Hybrids.

Mr. Blinn was a member of the Star City United Methodist Church, serving as treasurer, member of the administrative board, and adult Sunday School teacher for many years. He served on the Pulaski County Fair Board and as president of the Star City West cemetery board. When elected to the school board for the Eastern Pulaski School Corporation, he aided in the consolidation of the middle and elementary schools. Winamac Lodge No. 262 of the Free and Accepted Masons awarded him a 50-year lifetime membership in 2013. In the last five years, he was a member of the Pulaski Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
He was a dedicated golfer, Cubs fan, sports lover, and John Deere guy. Upon retirement, he enjoyed afternoon "tea time" with his friends at the Oak Grove in Star City. Other than peach, he always loved a good piece of pie. Except for college, the military and winters in Tucson, Arizona where he soaked up the sun and golfed with friends, Pulaski County was his home.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Star City United Methodist Church, with Pastor Ruth Waite officiating. Friends may call from 12:30 until the time of services. Inurnment will be in the Star City West Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to the Star City United Methodist Church. 

Cynthia L. Warner

October 27, 1960 to February 16, 2015

WINAMAC - Cynthia Lou Warner, 54, of Wolcott (formerly of Star City), passed away Monday, Feb. 16, following a courageous battle with Leukemia.

She was born Oct. 27, 1960 in Logansport.

Preceded in death by her mother, Judy K. DeWitt Warner. 

Ms. Warner was a 1979 graduate of Winamac Community High School. She worked as a welder at Monon Trailer and later at Braun Corporation. She was an active member of the Monticello United Methodist Church where she enjoyed volunteering. She was a former member of City of First Hog Chapter, where she served as President of Ladies of Harley. She enjoyed flowers, shopping, and playing BUNCO. She loved her family very much, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, at the funeral home with Rev. Brian Beeks officiating. Burial will be at Star City West Cemetery, Star City.

Memorial donations may be given to the family for a memorial fund established for Cindy. 

Olive May Master

September 22, 1928 to February 14, 2015

WINAMAC - Olive May Master, 86, of Winamac, passed away at 5:47 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Hendricks Regional Health Hospital, Danville, IN.

She was born Sept. 22, 1928, in Winamac, to the late Walter Lloyd and Cora E. Warmbrod Peters. She married Earl Robert Master on Feb. 20, 1949 at Lake Bruce. Earl died March 4, 1974.

Mrs. Maser was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist and the Circle of Love. She was a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star 96 in Winamac. She was a bookkeeper for Buckeye Elevator in Monterey for many years. She was also a former teller at the First National Bank in Monterey. She enjoyed playing Bunco, cooking and farming. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and spending time with her family.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac; and one prior to services at the church on Thursday. An OES service will begin at 7 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 19, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Lake Bruce. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lake Bruce. 

Memorial donations may be given to American Cancer Fund or the Heart Fund or Pleasant Hill Church 

Paul Mulcare

August 3, 1965 to February 15, 2015

WINAMAC - Paul Joseph Mulcare, 49, of Winamac, died at 6:40 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 15, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was born Aug. 3, 1965, in Chicago, to John Joseph and Arlene Myers Mulcare. He married Cheryl Lynn Shidler on Jan. 8, 1993 in Winamac. She survives.

Mr. Mulcare was a retired fabricator and welder at Galbreath Inc. in Winamac. He enjoyed fishing and small engine repair. He also enjoyed camping, drawing and any activity outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., (Friday, Feb. 20), at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Salyers officiating.

Memorial donations may be given to to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses. 

 

Walter D. Engel

November 1, 1940 to February 14, 2015

WINAMAC - Walter D. Engel, 74, of Knox, passed away at 2:18 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 1, 1940, in Chicago, to the late Walter Donald and Mary Anna Zabowka Engel. He married Maxine Woods on Feb. 8, 1964, in Knox. She survives.

Mr. Engel was a dairy and grain farmer for over 50 years. He served in the Indiana Army National Guard. He was a member of the Catholic church. He was also a member of the Winamac Athletic Boosters. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and also spending time with his family. He enjoyed vacationing with his wife. He also enjoyed visiting with his neighbors. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac; and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the funeral home with Rev. Matt Landry officiating. Burial will be at Round Lake Cemetery, Knox. Military graveside services will be conducted.

Ruth E. Bennett

September 9, 1926 to February 8, 2015

WINAMAC - Ruth Ellen Bennett, 88, of Winamac, passed away at 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 8, at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac.

She was born Sept. 9, 1926 in Denham to the late William H. Sr. and Alice Mae McCann Hoover. She married Raymond A. Bennett on Jan. 25, 1947 in Knox. He preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1980.

Mrs. Bennett and her husband lived in Knox for several years before moving to Winamac in the 1950's. She was a member of the Thornhope Community Holiness Church and was a former Sunday School teacher She was proud to be a homemaker. During the World War II effort, she joined the ranks of many other women working in factories to support the troops.She enjoyed reading her Bible and doing crossword puzzles. She appreciated the care given to her by the staff at Pulaski Health Care Center, where she made many new friends. She loved spending time with her family, especially her great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary, WInamac; and one hour prior to services at the funeral home Wednesday. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Frain Mortuary, with Mark Hines officiating. Burial will be at the Winamac Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Thornhope Community Holiness Church or Pulaski Health Care Center.
