Virgil Beckner

July 14, 1931 to July 13, 2010
 

WINAMAC - Virgil Beckner, 78, of 913 N. Agnew Str., Winamac, passed away at 7:02 a.m.,  Tuesday, July 13, , in St. Elizabeth East, Lafayette.

He was born July 14, 1931, in Headlee, to Norman and Ellen Stangle Beckner. He married Shirley M. Rife on July 12, 1952, in Winamac. She survives.

Mr. Beckner retired as the electrical superintendent of the Winamac Municipal Electric Department. He worked for the Town of Winamac for 39-1/2 years. He was a member of the Tippecanoe Twirlers Square Dance Club.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Saturday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 1p.m., Sunday (July 18), at the funeral home with Rev. Edward Clark officiating. Burial will be in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.

Robert H. Krohn

December 18, 1935 to July 10, 2010

WINAMAC - Robert H. Krohn, 74, of 5400 W 100 N, Winamac, passed away at 8:25 a.m., Saturday, July 10, in Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.

He was born Dec. 18, 1935, in Winamac, to Fred and Esther Olson Krohn. He married Martha K. Davis on Feb. 14, 1960, in Francesvile. She survives.

Mr. Krohn was a member of Bethel Bible Church. He was also a member of Gideon's International. He was a farmer all of his life and a retired rural mail carrier. He was president of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Merit Board. He was active in the Pulaski County community, having served on many boards and committees. He was an active member of the Pulaski County Republican Party.  The Krohns received the Hoosier Homestead Award in 2008.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Bethel Bible Church. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday (July 14), at the church with Rev. Thomas Hopewell officiating. Burial will be in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial donations may be given to Bethel Bible Church or Gideon's International.

Alice Earle Brown

January 1, 1910 to July 7, 2010
 

WINAMAC - Alice Earle Brown, 100, of 624 E. 13th St., Winamac, passed away at 2:05 a.m., Wednesday, July 7, at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac, where she had been a resident for many years.

She was born Jan. 1, 1910, in Somerset, MA, to Ralph and Elgie Anna Mann Earle. She married Rev. V. Kenneth Brown on June 10, 1930 in Newport, RI. He  died on Aug. 8, 1982.

Mrs. Brown and her siblings were pastors and missionaries in the U.S. and India. She graduated from Cleveland Bible Institute and Marion College. She taught elementary school at many locations. She and her husband at Friends churches in Indiana and Ohio, including several churches in Grant County, IN. Following her husband's death, Mrs. Brown moved to Winamac to be near her daughter and family.

She was a member of the South Marion Friends Church in Marion. She was a supporter of the World Gospel Mission. She was a member of the Pulaski County Retired Teacher's Assocation and the Pulaski Memorial Hospital Auxillary.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac; and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday (July 12), at South Marion Friends Church, Marion, with Dr. John Petty officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Fairmount.

Byron W. Harris

January 20, 1929 to July 5, 2010

FRANCESVILLE - Byron W. Harris, 81, of Noblesville, (Formerly of Lafayette and Bloomington) died peacefully surrounded by his family on July 5.

He was born Jan. 20, 1929 in Medaryville to Ralph Wallace and Zelma Campbell Harris. He married Carol Ann Lowry on March 18, 1956 in Francesville. She died in 2003.

Mr. Harris and his wife lived in Bloominton from 1964 to 1979 and raised their daughters there. The couple moved to Lafayette in December 1979 where they stayed until the death of Carol Ann. He then moved to Noblesville to be close to his two daughters.

Mr. Harris was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He was a 1947 graduate of Medaryville High School.He was a railroader for 45 years. He started with the Monon Railroad in 1947 and worked his way up to the vice president of operations. He retired from CSX Transportation in 1992. He was a member of the Medaryville Masonic Lodge, South Bend Scottish Rite, and the Lafayette American Legion.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of services at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville,Thursday (July 8). The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with Pastor Susan Jennys officiating. Masonic services will conducted during the funeral service. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery, Medaryville. The American Legion will conduct military graveside services.

Dorothy M. Johnson

October 15, 1924 to June 19, 2010

CULVER - Dorothy M. Johnson, 85 of Monterey, Indiana, died on June 19, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.

She was born to Elmer and Ethel (Reinholt) Johnson on Oct. 15, 1924  in Starke County.  She was never married.

She is survived by her sister - Betty Reinholt of Culver, nephews - Doug Johnson of Culver, Dennis Reinholt of Rochester,  and Michael Reinholt of Bristol, nieces - Linda Shedrow of Bradenton, Florida, and Brenda Sellers of Bristol, several great nieces & nephews, and aunt - Alma Reinholt of Buchanan, Michigan.  

She was preceded in death by her brother - Lowell Johnson, and sister - Norma Jean Johnson followed her in death on June 24, 2010.

There will be no visitation.  Rev. David Pleasant will officiate the memorial service which will take place at 11 a.m., on July 10,
at Global Harvest Church, located at 800 S and 35, south of Bass Lake.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

Norma Jean Johnson

August 17, 1926 to June 24, 2010

CULVER - Norma Jean Johnson, 83, of Monterey, died on June 24, at Miller's Merry Manor in Culver.

She was born on Aug. 17, 1926 in Starke County to Elmer and Ethel (Reinholt) Johnson. She was never married.

Survivors include her sister - Betty Reinholt of Culver, nephews - Doug Johnson of Culver, Dennis Reinholt of
Rochester, and Michael Reinholt of Bristol,  nieces - Linda Shedrow of Bradenton, Florida, and Brenda Sellers of Bristol, several great nieces & nephews, and aunt - Alma Reinholt of Buchanan, Michigan.  

She was preceded in death by her brother - Lowell Johnson, and sister - Dorothy Johnson.
