Wilma Frances Stewart

August 1, 1917 to August 25, 2010

 

DELAWARE, OHIO - Wilma Frances Stewart, 93, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 25, at Willowbrook Christian Village in Delaware, Ohio.

She was born Aug. 1, 1917, second of 13 children, in Eureka, Ill. to the late Christian and Barbara Wuethrich, who were longtime residents of Francesville. She married Jack L. Stewart on June 25, 1945. He died Jan. 4, 1999.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark (Brenda) Stewart and John (Margie) Stewart; 5 grandchildren, Kelsey, Jason, Jared, Shelby, and Angela; 4 brothers, Willis (Marjean), Robert (Phyllis), Richard (Nola), and Chris Lee (Ruth) Wuethrich; 5 sisters, Theresa Von Tobel, Velda Overmyer, Elizabeth Schambach, Glendoris (Lester) Huber, and Genevieve (Ed) Schambach; sister-in-law, Barbara Wuethrich; brother-in-law, Eugene Huber; and many other extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, David Wuethrich, and sisters, Mildred Huber and Barbara Ellen Wuethrich.

Mrs. Stewart attended Riverside Bible Church.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 30,  at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High St., Worthington, Ohio, where family will receive friends from 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Entombment Kingwood Memorial Park. Pastor Arthur Crawford officiating.

David Glenn Berry

August 9, 1961 to September 2, 1010

 

LOGANSPORT - David Glenn Berry, 49, Kewanna, passed away at 6:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, in Austin, Texas.

He was born Aug. 9, 1961, in Logansport to Thomas James and Lois E. Vogel Berry. On March 5, 1983, he married Melanie J. Davis, who survives.

Survivors with his wife, include son, Adam Berry and wife Ashly, Logansport; daughter, Hali Berry, Kewanna; mother, Lois E. Berry, Kewanna; brothers, Jim Berry and wife Sharon and Pat Berry and wife Tracy, all of Kewanna; sisters, Ellen King and husband Don, Rochester, and Kathy Green and husband Ron, Kewanna; granddaughter, Genevieve Grace Berry; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by father, Thomas James Berry; and his mother-in-law, Ruth Ann Davis.

David was an instrumental part of the family business, Jim Berry and Son’s Inc., and was also a farmer. He frequently traveled to Texas to buy trucks and trailers. He would refurbish the trucks, add grain beds and sell them to farmers and other businesses.

He was a 1979 graduate of Caston High School and a member of The Lucerne Christian Church, Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department and Wayne Township Advisory Board.

Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gundrum Funeral Home, Logansport. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday (Sept. 8), at the funeral home with Pastor Dirk Raderstorf officiating.

Memorials may be made to Lucerne Christian Church, the Genevieve Grace Berry College Fund or Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Marcella Zellers

November 9, 1924 to September 4, 2010

 

WINAMAC - Marcella L. Zellers, 85, of 612 N. Riverside Drive, Winamac, died at 1:55 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 4,  at Hickory Creek, Winamac.

She was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Winamac, to George and Martha Nierzwicki Snyder.

Mrs. Zellers lived most of her life in Winamac and was a former resident of Wyatt. She was employed for 23 years at ITT Building Services in South Bend. She also was a former employee of Burcliff Industries in South Bend and had been a housekeeper at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac for 10 years.

Friends may call from 3 59 i p.m., Wednesday,at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday (Sept. 9), at the funeral home with  Pastor Rick Abbott officiating. Burial will be in Winamac Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial donations may be given to Pulaski Memorial Hospital Hospice.

Anthony "Tony" Gray

March 11, 1921 to August 14, 2010
 
GALESBURG, ILL. - Anthony “Tony” William Gray, 89, of Galesburg, Ill. died Saturday, Aug. 14, in Peoria, Ill.

He was born on his family farm in Pulaski,  on March 11, 1921, the son of William and Mary Magdalene (Yager) Gray. He married Sonia JaVana Gabrielson on Jan. 17, 1959. She survives.

Also surviving are: a sister, Loretta (Gray) Sanders; children: Rodney Carlos (Idalee) Gray, Joel John (Julie) Gray, Sonia Kelly (John) Nelson, Joseph Anthony Gray, Mary Edith (Osha) Davidson, Patrick Gabrielson (Deb) Gray, Michael Edward Gray; Grandchildren: Becky, Celeste, Christopher, David G., David N., Erica, Haley, Jennifer , J.R., Kim, Leann, Liam, Marie, Marley, Melissa, Michelle, Mindy, Natalie, Sara, Sarah, Sienna; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Andrew and Louis, and sisters, Ruth, Mabel and Margaret Ann.

Mr. Gray graduated from Winamac High School in May of 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from Purdue University in 1949. He then returned to work the land as a professional farm manager for 55 years. He began with Doane Agricultural Service before forming his own business, Gray Farm Management.

He was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and a trustee since 1969. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1950. The Catholic Diocese of Peoria honored Gray’s lifetime of work for the Lord, presenting him with the Pere Marquette Award for Christian Service in 2003. He joined the Kiwanis Club of Galesburg in 1986 and served as president in 1992. He also served as president of the American Field Service club in Galesburg in 1979. He was active in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and their food pantry, Habitat for Humanity, Us TOO, and the Macular Degeneration support group.

The funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 18) at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio and Deacon Rodney Gray officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 17), at Watson Funeral Home, with the rosary being prayed at 8 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg.

Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in remembrance of Anthony W. Gray to benefit Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. 

Larry Lee Leasure

January 30, 1940 to August 20, 2010

 

KEWANNA - Larry Lee Leasure, 70 of Kewanna, passed away at 2:45 a.m., Friday, Aug. 20, at the Yellow Rose Hospice Unit at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Jan. 30, 1940 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Herold and Vivian (Scott) Leasure. On Jan. 7, 1961 he was married in Star City to (Mary) Linda Markley. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Michael L. Leasure of Battleground; daughter, Trudy L. Southe and her husband Ed of Plymouth; grandchildren, Gregory D. and Erik L. Gottschalk and Skye L. Leasure.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Joan Warner, Maxine Hessong and Monna Lou Brincefield.

Mr. Leasure was a 1958 Star City High School graduate and a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1958-1961 as vehicle mechanic and later as a medic. He formerly worked as a heavy equipment operator for Lebo and Markley in Winamac. He also worked at Tee-Pak in Winamac. He retired as a computerized numerical control machinist for Fulton Industries in Rochester. He was a member of Star City United Methodist Church, Amalgamated Meat Packers Union, V.F.W. Post #1121 in Kewanna and National Wildlife Federation.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday (Aug. 24), at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, 123 E. Main St., Kewanna. Services will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to any hospice program of choice or go to www.donatelifeindiana.org to sign the registry for donation of organs or tissue or to make a monetary donation.

Viola Woodard

August 23, 1940 to August 30, 2019

 

MEDARYVILLE - Viola Lucille Woodard, 70, of 1309 E. Grace St., Rensselaer, formerly of Medaryville, passed away at 11:15 a.m.,Monday, Aug. 30, at Rensselaer Care Center, Rensselaer.

She was born Aug. 23, 1940, in Whiting, to the late Harold and Twilla Small Woodard.

Survivors include:
Delores (Robert) Woodard Miller, Medaryville, Sister & brother-in-law
Ernest (Krystal) Woodard, Medaryville, Brother & sister-in-law
Several nieces & nephews

Ms. Woodard worked for 25 years at Peak Communtity Services in Winamac. She was a lifelong resident of Medaryville.

Friends may call after 11 a.m., Thursday,  at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. (Thursday, Sept. 2), at the funeral home with Rev. Tom Dewlen officiating. Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery located at Hamlet.

David Brockett

April 3, 1936 to August 29, 2010

 

WINAMAC - Dr. David L. Brockett DVM, 74, of 633 E 100 S, Winamac, passed away at 7:35 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 29, at his residence.

He was born April 3, 1936 in Summitt County, Ohio, the son of Roger and Grace Patch Brockett. He married Karren E. Woodward on Aug. 24, 1985 in Winamac. She survives.

Dr. Brockett grew up on a farm in Seville, OH, helping take care of livestock. He graduated from Westfield High School where he played basketball and other sports. He attended Muskingum College for two years.  He went on to The Ohio State University to study veterinary medicine. He graduated in 1961. He came to Winamac and ran a successful veterinary practice for 44 years. He was active in 4H with all of his children.

Dr. Brockett was active in Republican politics. He served as a Pulaski County Councilman for 30 years.  He was also a longtime member of the Pulaski County Health Board.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
