Roland L. Smeltzer

WINAMAC - Roland L. Smeltzer, 78, of 31 South Oak Drive West, Winamac, died at 5:50 a.m., Saturday, March 13, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.
He was born May 7, 1931, in Winamac, to Raymond and Mary Conner Smeltzer. He married Dolores J. Shrader on May 20, 1952 in Logansport. She survives

Mr. Smeltzer was the owner/operator of Smeltzer Bulldozing in Winamac from 1956 to 1984. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served aboard the USS Sierra AD-18 from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Winamac and a life member of the VFW Post 1728 in Winamac.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Monday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday (March 16), at the funeral home with Rev. Martin Sandhage officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and the VFW will conduct military graveside services.
Memorial donations may be given to the Disabled American Veterans Association or the St. Vincent's Hospice.
Billy G. Oliver Sr.

MEDARYVILLE - Billy G. Oliver Sr., 71, of 1860 S 200 E, Knox, passed away at 12:50 a.m., Monday, March 15, in the Golden Living Center, Valparaiso.
He was born May 15, 1938, in Rensselaer, to George W. and Lillie Joseph Oliver.

Mr. Oliver had been a resident of Knox for the past six years, and was formerly of Medaryville, and Chesterton. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He also raised livestock and was an avid hunter. He was a former member of the Indiana National Guard.
Friends may call after 12 noon, Wednesday, at the Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., (Wednesday, March 17), at the funeral home, with Pastor Jon Rumley officiating. Burial will be in White Post Cemetery, Medaryville. The American Legion will conduct military graveside services.

FRANCESVILLE - Melinda Sue Myers, 59, of 117 N. Market St., Monon, passed away at 7:15 a.m., Thursday, March 18, at her residence in Monon.
She was born Sept.r 29, 1950, in Lafayette, to Warren Lowell and Milna Ann Gentry Kesler.

Mrs. Myers worked as a sales clerk at Wayfara in Wolcott. She was member of Expo for special people and ABATE.

FRANCEVILLE - Mary Jean Brennan, 86, of 101 Constitution Drive, Francesville, passed away at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 20, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville.
She was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Lebanon, to Robert L. and Jesse Fern Kincaid Martin. She married Cecil Brennan, Sr. on Dec. 7, 1941 in Lebanon. He died Sept. 17, 1976.

Mrs. Brennan worked for the Indiana Employment Security Division in Indianapolis as an accountant. She was a member of the Macatee Methodist Church in Arcadia, FL, and the Order of Eastern Star in Whitestown, IN.

WINAMAC - Jennie Phillips, 89, of 624 E. 13th St., Winamac, died at 8:20 p.m., Thursday, March 25, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.
She was born Jan. 10, 1921, in Hammond, to Anthony and Mary Novak Bieniewicz. She married Elmer "Bud" Phillips Jr. on Sept. 20, 1941 in Knox. He died Feb. 26, 1990.
Survivors include: Candy L. (Jay) Bitterling, Winamac, Daughter & son-in-law Jason (Christy) Bitterling, Winamac, Grandson & companion Jamie A. (Dan) Wenzler, Kewanna, Granddaughter & husband Jesse E.(Rhonda) Bitterling, Star City, Grandson & wife 11 great grandchildren

Mrs. Phillips was a member of the First Christian Church in Winamac. She had lived in Winamac since 1986. She was a former resident of Knox, and Franklin. She had worked at several grocery stores in Knox.

MEDARYVILLE - Sandra C. Humphrey, 60, 15852 W 200 N, Medaryville, died at 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 2, 1949, in Rensselaer, to Cecil and Irene McCarty Mitchell. She married George "Peanut" Humphrey on June 3, 1972, in Rensselaer. He survives.

Mrs. Humphre had worked for many years as a beautician for Claudine Childers. She had also been a cook in various restaurants in the area.

FRANCESVILLE - Alma Lovene Ewing, 88, of 303 N. Bill St., Francesville, passed away at 3:31 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, at Rensselaer Care Center in Rensselaer.
She was born June 26, 1921, in Medaryville, to Chris and Irinda Farrar Linback. She married Robert C. Ewing on Aug. 29, 1940 in Idaville. He passed away Sept. 15, 2008.

Mrs. Ewing was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church in Francesville. She was a life member of the VFW Auxillary 1728 in Winamac.

The VFW Auxillary will conduct a service at 6 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday (March 27), at the funeral home with Rev. Lynn Rosiejka officiating. Burial will be in Koster Cemetery, Francesville.
