Edith I. Tucker

October 5, 1917 to December 13, 2016

MONON - Edith I. Tucker, 99, of Francesville, passed away at 9:35 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Parkview Haven Nursing Home, Francesville.

She was born Oct. 5, 1917 in Pulaski County to the late William “Bill” and Minnie Doll Garling. Her first marriage was to Everett Kruger on March 10, 1936; he passed away in 1949. She later married Rhea Tucker on April 14, 1951 in Francesville; he preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1984.

She is survived by her children, Marilyn Chafey of Indianapolis, Gerald (Carolyn) Kruger of Francesville and a sister, Hannah (Don) Dommer of Winamac. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Bill Chafey, Curt Chafey, Darryl Chafey, Jerry L. Kruger, and Jana Drone; 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death with her parents and both husbands was a brother, Robert Garling, her son-in-law, Bill Chafey and a great-great-grandson Noah Chafey.

Mrs. Tucker was a lifelong member of St. James Salem United Church of Christ of Francesville and charter member of the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed spending her time outdoors, gardening, quilting, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at St. James Salem United Church of Christ (10934 W 600 S, Francesville); Rev. Judith Doll to officiate. Interment to follow in the St. James Salem Church Cemetery.

Edward D. Risner

April 1, 1941 to December 13, 2016

MEDARYVILLE - Edward Duane Risner, 75, of Medaryville, lost his battle with cancer at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, at his residence in Medaryville, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 1, 1941 in Winamac, to the late Fred and Dora Jackson Risner. On Feb. 23, 1963 he married Marlene F. Harris in Las Vegas. They net in 1960 while he was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, CA. She survives.

He is also survived by:

Mr. Risner served as a corporal in the Marine Corps from 1960 until 1964. He was a diesel mechanic, and retired from Castongia's John Deere in Demotte. He was a member of the Medaryville Christian Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed working on old tractors and traveling. He especially enjoyed visiting and playing games with his family and friends.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of services Saturday, Dec, 17, at the Medaryville Christian Church, Medaryville. The funeral service will follow at 10 a.m.,
Saturday, at the church with Don Nedza officiating. Burial will be at White Post Cemetery, Medaryville. Military graveside services will be conducted.

Memorial donations may be made to the Medaryville Christian Church or the VA House in Indianapolis, IN.

Mary Ann Gutwein

December 28, 1929 to December 12, 2016

FRANCESVILLE - Mary Ann Gutwein, 86, of Francesville, passed away at 9:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 12, at St. Elizabeth East in Lafayette.

She was born Dec. 28, 1929 in St. Louis, MO to the late Jacob and Ida Schmid Altvater. At a young age, she moved to Milford, IN and was raised by Oliver and Emma Haab, foster parents. She graduated from Milford High School in 1947. On June 26, 1960, she married Glen Gutwein in Milford. He survives.

Mrs. Gutwein was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and was faithful to help with church activities. She enjoyed being a homemaker, especially cooking and spending time with her family. 

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville; and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 19, at the Apostolic Christian Church, Francesville, with the ministers of the church officiating. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.

Brian E. Houchin

June 21, 1972 to December 10, 2016

WINAMAC - Brian Edward "Bull Frog" Houchin, 44, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, Dec. 10. 

He was born June 21, 1972.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann; his children Brittany, Steffan, Ashlyn, Tony and Erin; his grandchildren Matthew, Alyssa and "baby chipmink"; his mother Rosemary Houchin; step-father John (Guadalupe) Houchin; his brother Johnny (Susan) Houchin; and his sister April (Paul) Coy. He is also survived by nieces Tressa, Olivia, Brooke, Rylee and Aubrey; nephews Jonathan, Nathaniel, Matthew and Logan; aunts and uncles and many cousins whom he adored; plus "Baby Cat" Cori Houchin and his little brother Paul Houchin and their mother, who was very dear to his heart, Lori Houchin.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents whom he loved very much, John and Doris Houchin and Edward Leigh.

Mr. Houchin loved his family. Family was the most important thing to him. He loved the outdoors, especially the woods and he enjoyed fishing. He loved playing with his grandkids and enjoyed doing things around the house and helping others. He was highly educated and had many awards and degrees. He was a wonderful artist, cook and quilt maker. He had a beautiful spirit and a big heart and he was a wonderful person and a loving family man who was a gift to all.

A private service will be held at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. Burial will take place at a later date.

Donald W. Baugh

July 10, 1945 to December 9, 2016

WINAMAC - Donald Wayne "George" Baugh, Sr., 71, of Winamac, passed away unexpectedly at 4:05 a.m., Friday, Dec. 9, at Logansport Memorial Hospital, Logansport.

He was born July 10, 1945 in Kewanna, to the late Harvey V. and Alma Edith Cappis Baugh. On Sept. 9, 1978 he married Carey M. Sheets in Rochester. She survives.

Mr. Baugh worked his entire life in general construction as an independent contractor. He was a former member of the Logansport Eagles and Knox Moose. He enjoyed country western music and dancing. He also enjoyed fishing and watching Western movies. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Seger officiating. Private burial will be at Pro Cemetery, Winamac.

Phyllis J. Rankin

April 3, 1926 to December 2, 2016

WINAMAC - Phyllis J. Rankin, 90, of Winamac, passed away at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2, at Miller's Merry Manor in Culver.

She was born April 3, 1926 in Mason City, IL. On Dec. 1, 1946, she married Richard G. Rankin in Pekin, IL. He died Aug. 23, 1983.

She is survived by:

Mrs. Rankin enjoyed walking and watching TV. She also enjoyed fishing trips with her family. She loved her pets. She and her husband had been owners of the Crossroads Market at SR14 and SR39 in Winamac.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 12 noon, Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon, Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Winamac Cemetery, Winamac.
