Maurine Wilder

May 24, 1939 to November 19, 2016

WINAMAC - Maurine Wilder, 77, of Winamac, passed away at 9:05 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born May 24, 1939 in Columbus, to the late Lewis F. and Eathel Myers Wolters. At the age of four, her family moved to Phoenix, AZ. She graduated from North Phoenix High School in 1958. On Feb. 13, 1959, she married Josh Wilder. He survives

The Wilders moved to Winamac in 1961 where they raised their four children. Mrs. Wilder was a longtime member of the Winamac Church of the Nazarene where she had formerly taught Sunday School and served as Bible School director, contributions secretary, Sunday School secretary, steward, secretary of the church board, missionary study chairman, and director of the "Pulpit Puppeteer" Ministry. In 1999, she was presented with the "Distinguished Service Award" by her church congregation. 

She was an active member of the community. She was a founding member of the Razzle Dazzle Red Hat Ladies group and a co-founder of Visually Impaired Persons "VIP" a local support group. She was a former member of the Kitchen Kadettes and Lamda Phi. Over the years, she enjoyed assisting her husband with the Northern Indiana Power From the Past organization

Mrs. Wilder had a gift for writing. Along with hundreds of poems, she also wrote and self-published four books. She was well known in the community for her "Joy in the Mailbox" ministry where she wrote thousands of letters to shut-ins and those who were experiencing difficulties in their life. Upon reflection on her vision loss due to macular degeneration, she recalled John 9:3, "...this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in my life."  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac; and one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23, at the Winamac Church of the Nazarene, Winamac. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Hazel I. Page

April 7, 1922 to November 18, 2016

FRANCESVLLE - Hazel Iris Page, 94, of Francesville, died at 5:22 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.

She was born April 7, 1922, in Danville, IL to the late Joseph Leonard and Cecilia Justin Tucker Spencer. On Oct. 6, 1941 she married William Wayne Wright. He died Jan. 5, 1951. She married Eugene Page on July 19, 1957. He died April 25, 2001.

Mrs. Page was a homemaker and farm wife. She helped with the milking, raising her garden and canning the produce she raised. She loved spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville, with Pastor Jack Balon officiating. Burial will follow at the cemetery.

Jean Frain

November 10, 1930 to November 17, 2016

WINAMAC - Jean Frain, 86, of Winamac, died with her family by her side at 10:12 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 17, at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac.

She was born Nov. 10, 1930 in Winamac to the late Omer and Eva May Collins Clark. On May 2, 1948, she married Maxwell Clyde Frain at the First Christian Church, Winamac. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary prior to Max's death on May 17, 2012.

Mrs. Frain was raised on a small farm with her siblings and attended a one room school. She and her husband owned and operated Frain Mortuary in Winamac and raised four children. She had the distinguished honor of being the First Lady of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association in 1977. 

After retirement, the couple spent many winters in Naples, FL where she enjoyed shopping at Tin City and searching for shells on the beach while summers were spent at Lake Freeman in Monticello where she enjoyed going to Indiana Beach and fishing, always with her grandchildren by her side. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching television and movies as well as going to the beauty shop. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Winamac where she had formerly taught Sunday school. She was a former member of the Mother's Club and Order of Eastern Star, both of Winamac.  She was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 20, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 21, at the funeral home with Rev. Edward Clark officiating. Burial will be at Winamac Cemetery, Winamac.

Edward A. Bonnell

June 25, 1958 to November 13, 2016

INDIANAPOLIS - Edward “Ed” Allen Bonnell, 58, of Winamac, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13. 

He was born June 25, 1958, the son of the late Paul and Mary Lou Bonnell.

He is survived by one daughter, Amber (Shawn) Welker; four brothers, David Bonnell of Winamac, Carl (Laura) Ent of Ann Harbor, MI, Ace Bonnell and Tracy (Teena) Bonnell, all of Kewana; two sisters, Brenda Hadley of Winamac, and Toni (Bob) Fahler of Warsaw; and four grandchildren, Colton Welker, Haley Gleitz, Nathanial Welker, and Isabelle Welker.

Mr. Bonnell was a U.S. Marine veteran and a member of the VFW.  He enjoyed going to the casino and golfing. He was a cigar connoisseur and a collector of guns. He also enjoyed listening to music and cooking. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life service will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, at Winamac V.F.W. Post No. 1728,Winamac.

JoAnne Scharf

September 3, 1933 to November 13, 2016

MONTICELLO - JoAnne Scharf, 83, of Monticello, passed away at 1:29 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 13, at I. U. Health Arnett, Lafayette.

She was born Sept. 3, 1933 in White County to the late JD and Melba I. (Miller) Hughes. She married Wilbur L. Hall and they later divorced. On June 2, 1964 she married Ed Scharf in Crown Point. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2004.

She is survived by her children, Darrell (Mary) Hall of Monticello, Ken (Karen) Hall of Wolcott, Alexandra Hall (Kevin Kelly) of Dayton, OH, Ron (Alice) Hall of West Lafayette; two step-daughters, Patricia (John) Bawcum of Winamac and Donna (Greg) Rothfeldt of Apollo Beach, Fla.; 33 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Gloria Scharf-Beedie, and infant sister, Delphine Hughes.

Mrs. Scharf graduated from Roosevelt High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Fellowship Church, Reynolds. She enjoyed monthly meetings with her former United Telephone Company co-workers and was involved in Moose Lodge, Twin Lakes Senior Citizen Friendship Club and the Live Wires. She was extremely proud of her children 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Sitka Baptist Church, Monticello; and also one hour prior to the funeral service which will begin at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 17, at the church with her son, Elder Ken Hall of the Bible Baptist Fellowship Church of Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to the Bible Baptist Fellowship Church, Reynolds. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Margaret A. Hough

April 18, 1931 to October 27, 2016

KOUTS - Margaret Ann Hough, 85, of Kouts passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, in Tacoma, Wash.

She was born April 18, 1931 in Winamac to the late John and Pearl (Randolph) Fitzpatrick. On Sept. 15, 1950 she married Robert Hough who preceded her in death in 1997.

Survivors include their daughters: Roberta (Harlan) Larson of Tacoma, Wash., Linda (Terry) Werner of Wanatah and grandchildren: Roger, Matthew and Rachael.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers: William, James and Peter Fitzpatrick.

Mrs. Hough graduated from Francesville High School. She had been a member of First Presbyterian Church of Valparaiso, Kouts American Legion Auxiliary and the Eastern Star of Hebron.

A private burial service will be held Saturday at Graceland Cemetery, Kouts.
