WINAMAC - Marilyn Ruth Powlen, 83, Winamac, passed away at 4:20 a.m., Monday, March 17, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac.
She was born Jan. 6, 1931, in Star City, to the late Ross and Orpha Rouch Fry. She married Richard Dwight Powlen on Oct. 19, 1949 in Lucerne. He died Nov. 15, 1994.

Mrs. Powlen lived most of her life in Pulaski County. She was a member of First Christian Church in Winamac. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and watching and feeding birds. She loved farming with her husband and family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
A private graveside service will be held at Reed Cemetery, Winamac. Burial will be at Reed Cemetery.
Memorial donaions may be given to Riley Children’s Hospital.

WINAMAC - Donald C. Reaker, 69, Winamac, passed away at 9:52 p.m., Friday, March 14, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.
He was born May 16, 1944.
No funeral service will be held. Burial of cremains will be at Bremen Cemetery, Bremen.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary, Winamac.

MEDARYVILLE - Kenneth Joe Lewark, 62, of Medaryville, passed away at 8:19 p.m., Friday, March 14, at IU Health White Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
He was born Nov. 28, 1951, in Medaryville, to the late Leslie and Leona Archer Lewark. He married Charlotte D. Smith on July 27, 1974, at Bethel Bible Church, Winamac. She survives.

Mr. Lewark lived all of his life in Medaryville and graduated from Medaryville High School. He was a retired truck driver for Vulcon Materials where he worked for 33 years. He was a member of Local #150 of the Operating Engineers. He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Bible Church where he served as a trustee on church board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday (March 19), at the funeral home, with Pastor Leonard Allen officiating. Burial will be in White Post Cemetery, Medaryville.

APALACHICOLA, FLA. - Charles R. Kelsey, 98, Monterey, died Friday, Feb. 28, in Apalachicola, Fla.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Hastings, Rapid City, S.D., and Martha Shouldis, Seymour, Conn.; five sons, Michael, Apalachicola, Fla., Arthur, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Robert, Monterey, David, Lake Lotawana, Mo., and Terrance, Culver; and a sister, Roberta Thomas, Phoenix, Ariz.
A celebration of life service will take place Sunday, May 25, in Monterey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name can be made to Public Television Michiana, Inc. or to Habitat for Humanity International.
Kelley Funeral Home in Apalachiocola, Fla. is in charge of arrangements.
William E. Hurley
October 2, 1937 to March 3, 2014
MEDARYVILLE - Dr. William Ellis Hurley, 76, Lafayette, passed away Monday, March 3, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 2, 1937 in Hartrford City, to Joseph and Mary Ellis Hurley who preceeded him in death. He married Kathryn S. Kruger on Dec. 18, 1965. She passed away Dec. 29, 2004.
Survivors include a son, Jon M. Hurley, and two sisters, Marilyn R. Bryant and Pamela S. (Steve) Weaver, all of Lafayette.
Dr. Hurley was a 1955 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. He entered the U.S. Navy, serving from 1956-1960, and was stationed aboard the USS Newman K. Perry. After serving in the navy, he attended and graduated from the Purdue University School of Pharmacy in 1969. He also was a 1974 graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Remington and Lafayette. He was a ham radio operator and loved to fish, especially in Canada. He also enjoyed golfing, his dog "Toby" and growing flowers.
No services will be held. Burial will be in White Post Cemetery, Medaryville. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville.

She was born March 2, 2014, in Plymouth.

WINAMAC - Jesus "Jesse" Mendiola, 57, of Winamac, died at 11:13 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, at the home of his daughter in Winamac.
He was born Sept. 18, 1956, in San Bonito, TX, to the late Jose and Maria Vincenta Sanchez Mendiola.

Mr. Mendiola was a maintenance man at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac for 38 years. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Winamac. He enjoyed running. He competed in two Chicago Marathons and two Indianapolis Mini Marathons. He enjoyed spending time with all of his family members. He was an auto racing fan and sports enthusiest. He was an avid Raiders fan.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday (March 7), at the funeral home with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Winamac.
Memorial donations may be given to Pulaski Memorial Hospice.
