Robert Maddox

September 8, 1934 to September 24, 2015

WINAMAC - Robert G. "Bob" Maddox, 81, of Winamac, passed away at 3:15 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, at his residence, following a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 8, 1934, in Medaryville, to the late George Washington and Anna Smith Maddox. He married Mary Fisher on May 8, 1970 in Cassopolis, MI. She survives.

Mr. Maddox lived most of his life in Winamac. He was a member of Winamac Lodge 262 F&AM, South Bend Scottish Rite and the Murat Shrine. He served 27 years as a volunteer with the Winamac Volunteer Fire Department. He served as a second lieutenant in the Indiana Army National Guard. He was the former owner of the Winamac Marathon service station. He worked as a salesman for Auto Pro in Winamac for eight years. He worked for NAPA Auto Parts in Winamac for 18 years. He was a former school bus driver for Winamac Schools. He enjoyed walking, working puzzles, watching movies and antiquing with Mary. He loved visiting Mackinac Island. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. He was loved by all who knew him. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Abbott officiating. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military services at the funeral home following the service.

Memorial donations may be given to American Cancer Society.

 




 

Mary Jane Koons

February 23, 1943 to September 17, 2015

ROYAL CENTER - Mary Jane Koons, 72 of Royal Center, passed away at 10 p.m., Thursday, September 17, at her residence.

Born Feb. 23, 1943 in Star City, she was the daughter of the late Emron Jr. and Annabelle (Doen) Bonnell. On Aug. 30, 1961, she married Robert L. Koons, he survives.

Also surviving are sons, Randolph L. Koons (Angela) of North Carolina and Aaron R. Koons (Lisa) of Royal Center, daughter, Sandra L. Little (Raymond) of Lebanon, brother, Clifford Bonnell (Wanda) of Winamac, sisters, Faith Poindexter (Richard) of Wolcott, Peggy Shidler (Richard) of Logansport and Cathy Farmer (Kevin) of Iowa, sister-in-law, Mary Lou Bonnell of Winamac, 4 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

She was also preceded in death by brother, Paul A. Bonnell.

Mrs. Koons was a 1961 Star City High School graduate. She formerly worked in the office at Dye Lumber in Royal Center for 10 years and she also formerly worked at Community State Bank. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pulaski where she was active in the Christian Mothers.

Per Mrs. Koon's wishes, her services were private and burial was at Kistler Cemetery, Royal Center.

Doris Burroughs

March 23, 1916 to March 12, 2015

FRANCESVILLE - Doris Burroughs, 98, passed away March 12, 2015 in Crete, Ill.

She was born on March 23, 1916 in Monon. On Dec 31, 1939 she married Harry A. Burroughs at the Methodist church in Monon.

She is survived by her three children, Michael Wallace, Harry Bruce and Lena Kristine (Welden), as well as seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Burroughs graduated from Monon High School in June 1934. Following her marriage, the couple moved to Highland, where she spent most of her adult life working as both a dance instructor and a kitchen designer. After the death of her husband, she moved to Tifton, Ga. and finally to Lansing, Ill.

A graveside services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept.18, at Helfrich Cemetery, Monon. Burial of cremated remains will follow.

Betty J. Irven

March 28, 1921 to September 13, 2015

WINAMAC - Betty J. Irven, 94, of Winamac, passed away at 7:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 13, at her home.

She was born on March 28, 1921 in Ladd, IL to the late Rufus and Mary M. Lakatis Morgan. She married Keith L. Irven on March 15, 1946 in Winamac. He passed away Nov. 28, 1996.

Mrs. Irven had been a member of the Pulaski Presbyterian Church in Pulaski. She was a former member of the Pulaski Memorial Hospital Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing and ceramics. She was proud to be a homemaker. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, with Rev. Nelda Seger officiating. Private burial will be at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.

Memorial donations may be given to Pulaski Memorial Hospital Women's Auxiliary.

Charles R. "Chuck" Webb

September 21, 1931 to September 14, 2015

WINAMAC - Charles R. "Chuck" Webb, 83, of Winamac, died at 1:01 p.m., Monday, Sept. 14, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1931 in Winamac to the late William H. and Eula E. Campbell Webb. On July 24, 1953, he married Mary Ann Hauser in Winamac. She survives.

Mr. Webb served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #71 and the VFW Post #1728. As a member of the local honor guard, he presented the flag and played taps at the graveside for numerous fellow veterans. He retired as postmaster of the Winamac Post Office in 1989. Following retirement, he was employed at Frain Mortuary, where he worked for over 26 years.

Mr. Webb served on the Winamac Volunteer Fire Department for 31 years. He enjoyed helping with the German Festival. He joined the Winamac Kiwanis Club in 1975, and he served as its president in 1981. He enjoyed helping with the pancake breakfast. His dedication to the club allowed him to maintain a perfect attendance record. In 2014, he received the Kiwanian of the Year award. He was a 50-year member and Past Master of Winamac Lodge #262 F&AM. He also served many years as chaplain for the Masonic Memorial Services.

Mr. Webb was an avid reader and liked to play golf. He was a Winamac Warrior sports fan and an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He especially enjoyed going to Purdue football games with Tom White and Notre Dame Football games with Paul Gilsinger. Chuck and Mary Ann loved to travel. They had visited 46 states together. They also enjoyed going to Four Winds Casino, listening to live music, and attending social functions. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He faithfully attended his grandchildren's functions over the years. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac; and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. A Kiwanis memorial service will take place at 7 p.m., followed by a Masonic service at the funeral home, Thursday The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 18, at the funeral home with Rev. Laura Bailey officiating. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services.

Donald L. Stigen

June 21, 1952 to September 9, 2015

WINAMAC - Donald L. Stigen, 63, of Lafayette, formerly of Winamac, passed away at 4:40 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health - Lafayette East, Lafayette. 

He was born June 21, 1952, in Chicago, to the late Archie "Art" H. and Margaret Ann "Marge" Frahman Stigen. He married Debra Marie Kough Sept. 6, 1980 in Winamac. She died Sept. 2, 2000.

Les (Linda) Stigen, Winamac, Brother 

Preceded in death by: 
Sonja Renee Stigen, Sister 

Mr. Stigen served in the U.S. Army from 1976-1979. He was a part of the dignitary security team often working with the FBI. He served with the Pulaski County Sheriff's office from 1982-1987. He served as chief of the Winamac Police Department from 1987-1988. In October of 1988, he went to work for the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office. He served as a patrolman and later joined the detectives division where he served until 2006. While serving with the detectives he was the lead evidence technician and mentored many young deputies. As a detective, Mr. Stigen was instrumental in the development of the property room. He also worked high profile cases including the Roselawn plane crash and the attempted courthouse bombing. In 2007, he began working as a civil process server and was a special deputy of the TCSO. He retired in December of 2014. He was instrumental in forming the Tippecanoe County Bomb Squad in 1999. He also served as bomb squad commander. 

Mr. Stigen enjoyed fishing and hunting. He will be sadly missed by his family and co-workers. 

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Wednesday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A memorial service will follow at 12 noon, (Wednesday, Sept. 16), at the funeral home. Burial of cremains will be at Bruce Lake Cemetery, Lake Bruce. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services.

Memorial donations may be given to Tippecanoe County Humane Society.

 

Darl L. Field

January 16, 1963 to September 2, 2015

WINAMAC - Darl L. Field, 52, of Winamac, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 2, at his home. 

He was born Jan. 16, 1963 in Rensselaer, to Devon and Beverly Olson Field.

Mr. Field graduated from West Central High School in 1981. He had been employed at Galbreath for many years. In his younger years, he worked on the family farm. He attended the Winamac Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan. He also enjoyed woodworking, especially making bird houses. He loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m., Sunday, at Frain Mortuary; and one hour prior to services at the church Monday. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 7, at Winamac Church of the Nazarene, Winamac, with Pastor Brett Smith officiating. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac. 

Memorial donations may be given to Winamac Church of the Nazarene or Gideon's International.
