Andrew Budd

March 17, 1988 to August 23, 2015

WINAMAC - SSG. Andrew Charles Budd, 27, El Paso, TX, formerly of Winamac, passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, at his residence in El Paso.

He was born March 17, 1988, in Louisville, to Charles and Leanne Heater Budd. He married Casey McInnes on March 3, 2010, in Lawrenceville, GA. She survives.

He was preceded in death by: 
Alfred and Lucy Budd, Grandparents 

Mr. Budd was a former resident of Winamac and graduated from Winamac Community High School in 2006. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 2009, serving in the Signal Brigade specializing in Satellite Communications and was currently stationed at Fort Bliss, TX. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in December 2012, and was posthumously promoted to the rank of staff sergeant. He was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, 3 (posthumous), Army Achievement Medal, 4, Army Good Conduct Medal, 2, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal w/Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and a Meritorius Unit Commendation. 

While serving in the Army he assisted in the cleanup, recovery and establishing communications following the earthquake in Haiti. He also served in Iraq, Turkey, and had been stationed in Germany and Texas. While stationed in Germany he was able to travel Europe extensively with his wife. He loved to read and travel. Andrew and Casey enjoyed spending time hiking and climbing. They were always sightseeing and searching for an adventure. They were always interested in learning about new cultures. Andrew was very outgoing and enjoyed exploring the world with the love of his life and best friend Casey.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the funeral home. The U.S. Army will provide full military honors for SSG. Budd at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery following the service.

Robert J. Sommers

October 16, 1968 to August 24, 2015

WINAMAC - Robert J. Sommers, 46, of Winamac, passed away at 7:35 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. 

He was born Oct. 16, 1968, in Evergreen Park, IL, to Robert and Linda Heck Sommers.

Anthony F. Viktora

October 3, 1933 to August 22,2015

WINAMAC - Anthony F. Viktora, 81, of Winamac, passed away at 12:47 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.

He was born Oct. 3, 1933, in Denham, to the late Oldrich and Mary Rose Viktora. He married Clara Ellen Garling on April 11, 1953 in Francesville. She survives.

Mr. Viktora was employed as an engineer at Eaton Controls for over 30 years. He enjoyed restoring Ford tractors and antiques, He was always looking for a good bargain. He loved spending time with his family.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamnac; and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, at St. James-Salem United Church of Christ, Francesville, with Rev. Judy Doll officiating. Burial will be at St. James-Salem Cemetery, Francesville.

Memorial donations may be given to St James-Salem United Church of Christ Francesville.

Terry W. Powers

October 26, 1955 to August 19, 2015

WINAMAC - Terry William Powers, 59, Logansport, (formerly of Star City) passed away Wednesday, Aug. 19, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 26, 1955 in Winamac, to the late William Bryan and Mildred Brinker Powers.

He is survived by: 

Marjorie Thompson, Winamac, Aunt 
Mary Ellen Cook, Harlan, IA, Aunt 
Seven Cousins and their families

Mr. Powers graduated from South Side High School in Ft. Wayne, and received a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University, Muncie. He enjoyed going to auctions, woodworking, and collecting antiques. He lived most of his life on the family farm in Indian Creek Township, Pulaski County before moving to Logansport in 2007. 

Private burial will be at Star City West Cemetery, Star City.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary, Winamac. 

 

Dennis R. Harris

November 1, 1956 to August 19, 2015

MEDARYVILLE - Dennis Ray Harris, 58, of Medaryville, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 19, in Medaryville.

He was born Nov. 1, 1956 in Valparaiso, to the late John and Thelma Wireman Harris.

During his younger years, Mr. Harris lived at Bailey's Corner and also Leslie, MI. He enjoyed singing and playing music, especially his guitar. He was very talented and could play many different instruments. His friends and family nicknamed him "Willie Jones" because they thought he sounded like Willie Nelson and George Jones. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be sadly missed.

Forrest C. Stone

November 21, 1925 to August 20, 2015

FRANCESVILLE - Forrest C. Stone, 89, Francesville, passed away at 5:01 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Nov. 21, 1925 in rural Francesville to the late Clarence and Gertrude Pike Stone. On Dec. 29, 1946, he married Gwendolyn Cook in Monon. She passed away June 15, 2010.

Mr. Stone graduated from Francesville High School in 1943. He was a lifelong farmer in Pulaski County. Later in life, he enjoyed buying, selling, and refinishing antiques.He was an active member of the Francesville United Methodist Church where he served on the church board for many years. He was a Chicago Cubs and Purdue Boilermakers fan. He was a longtime member of the John Purdue Club, Golden Jacket Club and the Coach's Club. 

Mr. Stone was also a longtime member of the Francesville Lion's Club and a 50-year member of the Winamac Masonic Lodge #262 F&AM (formerly Monong Lodge of Francesville). He served on the Francesville Salem Township Library board. He was an avid golfer and very proudly achieved a hole-in-one at Curtis Creek Golf Course when he was 64. He was also an avid hunter. He enjoyed boating and water skiing. He taught countless kids how to ski over the years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife. He was a devoted father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday,at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 24, at the funeral home with Pastor Hal Cohn officiating. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.

WINAMAC - Donald H. Hirsch, 73, Monterey, passed away Saturday, Aug. 15, at the University of Chicago Medical Center, Chicago.

He was born Dec. 23, 1941, in Chicago, to the late Edwin and Rose (Jackel) Hirsch.

Mr. Hirsch enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching NASCAR, and watching sports. He also loved riding his motorcycle, spending time with family, gardening, and traveling. He was an avid carpenter and remodeled and built many homes over the years. He was a resident of Lake Bruce and Monterey for the past 25 years and formerly resided in Wheatfield. He was a longtime member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Monterey. He owned the Lake Bruce Resort for many years. He was a current school bus driver for the Culver Community Schools, and formerly with the Kankakee Valley and Winamac Community Schools. He especially enjoyed driving the wrestling and basketball teams and watching their matches and games. He also enjoyed driving students on field trips and was always eager to drive whenever he was asked.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A scriptural wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.at the funeral home. The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Monterey, with Rev. Bert Woolson officiating. Burial will be at St. Anne's Cemetery, Monterey.

Memorial donations may be given to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
