DeWitt Dodge

September 29, 1923 to August 5, 2014

WINAMAC - A graveside service for DeWitt Dodge will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, at Pulaski Presbyterian Cemetery, Pulaski, with Rev. Nelda Seger officiating. The American Legion will provide .military graveside honors. Burial of cremated remains will follow.

Mr. Dodge passed away Aug. 5, 2014.

Frain Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements. 

Cynthia Williams

February 24, 1957 to October 10, 2015

MEDARyVILLE - Cynthia Ann Williams, 58, of Medaryville, passed away at 3:47 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health - Lafayette East, Lafayette.

She was born Feb. 24, 1957, in Chicago to Donald Sr. and Carole Milligan Sayre. She married Jerry Williams Oct. 21, 1977 in Crown Point. He survives.

Mrs. Williams enjoyed nature. She loved feeding her birds and playing with the grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Memorial donations may be given to St Jude's Children Hospital.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville.

Melvin Brogdon

November 29, 1938 to October 10, 2015

WINAMAC - Melvin LaVon "Nub" Brogdon, 76, of Kewanna, (Lake Bruce) passed away at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born on Nov. 29, 1938 in Monon, the only child of the late Melvin C. and Margaret Adams Brogdon.  On Oct. 28, 1962, he married Katherine E. "Bunny" Smidler in Reynolds. She survives.

Mr. Brogdon graduated from Monon High School in 1956. After high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Guam before being honorably discharged. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Moose Lodge. He retired after 34 years as an area supervisor for gas measurement and transmission at NIPSCO. The Brogdons enjoyed 21 years of wintering in Pine Island, FL and Avon Park, FL. They also enjoyed living on Lake Bruce, especially fishing and boating. They have camped all over the U.S. and Canada. He was a diehard Indiana University Basketball and Bobby Knight fan. He was an avid Winamac Warrior fan and enjoyed attending his granddaughters' sporting events. He loved his Shih-tzu, Dixie who was always by his side even when he passed away. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to so many. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac; and one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 15, at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Abbott officiating. 
Burial will be at Bruce Lake Cemetery, Lake Bruce. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services.

The family requests memorial donations to the Melvin "Nub" Brogdon Scholarship Fund to be established at First National Bank of Monterey which will benefit a graduate of Winamac Community High School who is pursuing a career in special education, nursing, physical therapy, or occupational therapy. Esther E. Schultz

June 28, 1931 to October 11, 2015

MEDARYVILLE - Esther E. Schultz, 84, of Medaryville, passed away at 12:05 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 11, at her daughter's home in rural Medaryville.

She was born June 28, 1931, in Medaryville, to the late James Wathen and Elsie Crystelle  Blaydes Yerion. She married Richard A. Schultz on June 10, 1950, at the Medaryville Christian Church. He died April 2, 2006.

Mrs. Schultz was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Wheatfield High School in 1949. She was a member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church in Medaryville, and the Ladies Aid of the church. She will always be remembered for her lemon meringue pies at the bake sales. She worked as a waitress at several restaurants in Medaryville. She was a real estate broker from 1998-2013. She sold Avon products for over 30 years and was a member of the Avon President's Club. She enjoyed playing euchre at the West Side Senior Center in Medaryville. She was an active member of the center. Mrs. Schultz was a former Senior Citizen of the Year. She enjoyed all games played with her family as long as they were played by "grandma's rules."  She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m.Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel Medaryville. The funeral service will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel Medaryville, Medaryville, with Pastor Tom Woodley officiating. 
Private burial will be at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery, Medaryville.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Medaryville, or Pulaski Memorial Hospice.

Fay Pinder

December 12, 1911 to September 24, 2015

KEWANNA - Fay Pinder, 103, of Culver formerly of Kewanna, passed away at 7:15 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015 at Millers Merry Manor in Culver.

Born Dec. 12, 1911 in Grass Creek, she was the daughter of the late George and Raychel (Newman) Koenig. On Oct. 20, 1934, she married Harold Pinder. He preceded her in death in 1982. 

Survivors include her sons, Ed Pinder (Lora Ann) of Culver, Richard “Dick” Pinder (June) of Crossville, Tenn., Jerry Pinder (Bev) of Plymouth and David Pinder of South Bend. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by son, Robert W. Pinder, brothers, Floyd and Roy, sisters, Carrie, Ella, May, Rosie, Ruby, Anna and Bessie, grandchildren, Elizabeth Slocum, Deanna Hale and Kerry Pinder.

Mrs. Pinder was a 1929 Kewanna High School graduate. She formerly worked at the Kewanna Union Township and Fulton Schools in the cafeteria as the head cook. She also formerly worked at Winamac Coil Spring in Kewanna. She was well known for the delicious pies she made that were served at Pinder’s Restaurant in Culver. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She was a member of Grass Creek United Methodist Church and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She also attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Culver.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel with Pastor David Sommers officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at Kewanna Citizens IOOF Cemetery.

Memorial donattions may be made to Grass Creek United Methodist Church.

WINAMAC - Lois Elizabeth Maureen Vollmer, 25, of Winamac, passed away unexpectedly at 5:41 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital.

She was born Jan. 17, 1990 in Winamac to Brian Joseph Vollmer and Bea Smith Braun.

As a child, Miss Vollmer enjoyed playing baseball in Star City Youth League. She especially enjoyed riding go-carts and three-wheelers with her brothers. She graduated from Winamac Community High School in 2008. While in high school she enjoyed cheerleading, color guard, choir, and spending time with her friends. She was a former member of the Girl Scouts and Sunshine Society. She received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Indiana University South Bend in 2014. She had worked at Four County Counseling Center in Winamac. She enjoyed drag racing with "DD" at Bunker Hill Drag Strip and Osceola Drag Strip. She was a member of the NHRA. She and Don were looking forward to the Race of the Champions on Saturday. She will be sadly missed by her racing family. She also enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, fishing, playing with her kids, and attending bonfires. She was fondly known to many as "Lil Mama", Lulu, and Flo Lo. She was the proud and loving mother of Chandler and Chloie who were the light of her life. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, especially her momma.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac; and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 2, at the funeral home with Mark Hines officiating.

Patrick Marion

July 23, 1950 to September 18, 2015

WINAMAC - Patrick James Marion, 65, of Winamac, passed away Friday, Sept. 18, at his home.

He was born July 23, 1950 in Doylestown, PA to James and Margaret Ely Marion.

Mr. Marion was a lifelong artist and teacher of fine arts. He was an avid college football fan and an animal lover. He was a dedicated father and a good friend to many. He will be missed. 

A memorial service will be held in Pennsylvania at a later date.
