Jean Brokish Keynote Speaker |
Brokish is the Midwest deputy director of the Farmland Trust organization which was founded in 1980 to save America’s farms and ranches. It works to advance farmland protection through agricultural conservation easements, smart growth, and smart tax policies. Farmland Trust advances farming practices that prevent erosion and rebuild soil health through the use of contour farming, no-till, cover crops, crop rotations, intensive rotational grazing, and precision agriculture.
The SWCD notes the carbon market landscape continues to evolve, and now includes multiple funding opportunities for farmers to be paid for conservation practices that reduce erosion, increase soil organic matter, and improve nutrient cycling. But making sense of the many different programs and terminology is challenging.
Brokish’s presentation is designed to help farmers understand what’s driving carbon markets, which conservation practices are considered “climate-smart,” how to generate carbon credits, and where to find information on available programs.
There is no charge to attend the event, but dinner reservations are requested by calling 574-946-3234 ext. 3.
Also during the program, local FFA members will give a presentation on their accomplishments this past year.
