Valentine F. Reinhold Jr.

June 11, 1924 to April 13, 2016

WINAMAC - Valentine F. “Junior” Reinhold Jr., 91, a lifelong resident of the Monterey area, passed away at 10 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. 

He was born June 11, 1924 in Monterey to the late Valentine and Mabel Bitterling Reinhold Sr. He married his high school sweetheart Esther Mack on Sept. 23, 1944, at the Methodist parsonage, Winamac. They celebrated their 71st anniversary in 2015. She survives.

Also surviving are children, Christine (Richard) Earp of Rochester and Valentine "Fred" (Elaine) Reinhold of Monterey; his grandchildren, Ronald (Kelly) Reinhold, Jacob (Amy) Koepkey, Ross (Nicole) Earp, Allison (Randy Kopka) Earp, Brian (Susan) Hessong, and Scott (Sydny) Hessong; his great-grandchildren, Austin (Ali) Reinhold, Scottlynne Reinhold, Reilly Reinhold, Logan Koepkey, Griffin Koepkey, Madelyn Koepkey, Sawyer Koepkey, Maci Earp, Maddison Earp, Darian Reinhold, Michael Demonja, Anthony Demonja, Herbert Hessong, Kenneth Hessong, Amelia Hessong, Stephanie Hessong, Shaynah Hessong, and Rhonda Reinhold; and siblings, Judith Ann (Howard) Carlisle of Argos; Lowell Reinhold of Winamac; Hubert Reinhold of Goshen; Byron (Nancy) Reinhold of South Bend; and David (Vivian) Reinhold of Kewanna; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Reinhold; his grandson, Robert Reinhold; and sisters, Kathryn Corbett and Elsie Tuley. 

Mr. Reinhold graduated from Monterey High School in 1942. He was a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church. He also belonged to the American Milk Producers, Inc. He was a longtime farmer, following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father. He loved his land and often spoke of days spent farming with horses. He also had a dairy herd for many years and did custom farm work for area farmers. He was also a bus driver for Monterey schools and for Culver schools for 39 years. He looked forward to the Christmas holiday when he would give treats to his riders. For years he was responsible for  transporting the government school food for all schools in Pulaski County.

Mr. Reinhold and his wife were never far from each other. They were even together at his death, side by side. They were so appreciative of each other, never missing each other's birthday or anniversary without a gift for each other. He was Esther's best friend. He enjoyed gardening, camping, cutting wood, and spending time on the beach in Florida. He also enjoyed watching TV, especially college basketball. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, April 18, at Monterey United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., at the church. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial donations may be given to Monterey United Methodist Church, Alzheimer's Association or ALS Foundation.

Algot Olson

August 31, 1935 to April 13, 2016

FRANCESVILLE - Algot "Al" Olson, 80, of Francesville passed away, holding the hand of his wife, Wednesday, April 13, at Allisonville Meadows, Indianapolis.

He was born Aug. 31, 1935 in Kouts, to the late Louie and Agnes Olson. Hemarried Virginia Logan in 1958 in Tuscola, Ill. They were married for 57 years.

He is survived by daughters Dawn (Randy) Miller of Middlebury, Alicia (Marc) McClure of Indianapolis, and son Eric (Traci) Olson of Abingdon, Md.; his sister Lillian Dedman and brother Glenn (Tina) Olson; his grandchildren Erica (James), Zachary (Emiline), Hannah, Alexis, Brianna, Olivia, Karisse, Carli, Christian, Kyle; his great-grandchildren Doris, Nathanael, Josiah, Ruth; and his nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by siblings Edna, Agnes and Harold.

Mr. Olson grew up in Kouts and graduated from Kouts High School in 1953. After high school, he attended Bible college at Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, Ill. where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in preaching. He started Francesville Tire Company in the early 1960s and Blue Sea Blueberries in the early 1970s. He grew and sold landscape trees for over 30 years and Blue Sea Blueberries through the 2015 season. Hewas a member of Medaryville Christian Church, where he served in various capacities for over 50 years. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, his kids, his grandkids and great-grandkids, as well as gardening. He received certification in the Master Gardeners program of Indiana.

A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 17, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. The family will greet friends and relatives prior to the service, beginning at 1 p.m.  Burial will follow at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.

Patricia A. Wolff

May 8, 1938 to March 24, 2016

SOUTH BEND - Patricia A. Wolff, 77, of Winamac, passed away Thursday, March 24, at Elkhart General Hospital after an extended illness.

She was born May 8, 1938 in Nappanee, to the late Emmitt D. and Mildred L. (Johnson) Shippy. She married Dorman R. Wolff, Jr., on Sept. 27, 1958, in New Carlisle. He passed away Jan. 11, 2013.

She is survived by her four sons; Barry E. Wolff of Winamac, Dorman D. (Cecille) Wolff of Albuquerque, N.M., Mark R. (Kathryn) Wolff of Kodak, TN, and James M. (Gina) Wolff of Mishawaka. Also surviving are three sister; Janis D. (Donald) Swank of Kendallville, Betty L. (Jerry) Chapman of New Carlisle, Susan K. (Ed) Walters of South Bend, and a brother, Stuart M. (Janet) Shippy of Rochester. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Zack, Mitch, Ryan, Rachel, Emilly, Karly, Alicia and Sophie and a great-granddaughter, Autumn, all of whom she loved and cherished. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Graham R. Wolff.

Mrs. Wolff retired from PDH Office Products after 22 years of service. She was a former resident of New Carlisle, Mishawaka and South Bend. She loved reading, knitting, fishing with her late husband, crocheting, painting, visiting families in other states and being with her loving family and grandchildren.

A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, at Highland Cemetery, South Bend, with Pastor Don Neely officiating.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Charles H. Hoffman

January 31, 1933 to March 29, 2016

FOWLER - Charles Harold Hoffman, 83, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Fowler, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 29, at his home.

Born Jan. 31, 1933 in Pulaski County to the late Charlie and Nellie (St. Clair) Hoffman. He married Klovetta Kesler on Nov. 25, 1956.

Surviving are three children, Roxanne (Larry) Kline of Clive, IA, Judy (Mark) Amsler of Monticello, and Michael (Joyce Gretencord) Hoffman of West Lafayette. He is also survived by two brothers, Bob (Marcella) Hoffman of San Pierre and Jim (Patty) Hoffman of Winamac, and two sisters, Donna Meyer St. Clair, of Winamac, and Alice Thurston, of Fowler. He also leaves behind a very special friend, Tess Leeper, of Bradenton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Klovetta, and a brother, Keith.

Mr. Hoffman graduated from Monon High School, went to Purdue University, and was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He loved the farm, playing cards, and a good joke. His proudest accomplishment was his seven grandchildren, one great grandson, and a great granddaughter on the way. He taught his family the value of hard work, how to laugh at a good joke, and win at cards.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, April 2, at Windler Funeral Home, Fowler, with the funeral following at 11 a.m, officiated by Father Bob Klemme. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.

Bobby J. Bailey

September 18, 1956 to April 7, 2016

MEDARYVILLE - Bobby Joe Bailey, 59, of Hudson, Ind., passed away Thursday, April 7, in Branch County, Mich., as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born Sept. 18, 1956 in Fredsville, Ky.  On June 26, 1982, he married Brenda Wireman in Medaryville. She survives.

Mr. Bailey enjoyed sharing the word of God with others. He was a collector of many things, including knives, cars, and clocks.  He enjoyed being a part of flea markets over the years and was always on the go. He also enjoyed music, especially the Backstreet Boys. He had a way of making people laugh. He loved his dog, Lexus. He was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten.

Visitation will be at Goodway Baptist Church, Medaryville, from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday, April 11. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 12 at the church with Pastor James Rowe officiating. Burial will be at Goodway Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to the funeral home to help the family with funeral expenses.

Alice I. Montgomery

November 2, 1922 to April 7, 2016

WINAMAC - Alice Irene Montgomery, 93, of Greenwood, formerly of Logansport, passed away at 5:45 a.m., Thursday, April 7, at Greenwood Village, Greenwood.

She was born Nov. 2, 1922, in Star City, to the late Milo and Muriel Grace Penny Bonnell. She married Forest Harvey "Frosty" Montgomery on Dec. 28, 1941, in the Star City United Methodist Church. He died Jan. 5, 2015.

Mrs. Montgomery and her husband were members of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Logansport. She was a long time member of the Dinshigers Club of railroad engineers. She was a longtime "New Deal Democrat." She was a skilled seamstress, an excellent baker and was financially savvy. She and Frosty spent many years in North Fort Myers, Fla. She was a good life-skills teacher for her grandchildren. She was a realtor and had been a partner with her husband in Montgomery Realty Inc. She will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, friends and family.

Arrangements are pending.

Burial will be at Buck Cemetery, Thornhope.

 

Charles L. Henderson

March 19, 1946 to April 5, 2016

WINAMAC - Charles "Ron" L. Henderson, 70, of Valparaiso, died at 12:45 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, at Porter Regional Hospital, Valparaiso.

He was born in Greensberg, on March, 19, 1946 to the late Clifford and Elizabeth Avery Henderson. On June 17, 1967 at Beale AFB, CA he married Rayanna Clouser. She survives.

He is also survived by his son, Jeffrey (Viola) Henderson of Winamac; daughters, Jennifer (Jeremy) Pape of Valparaiso and Josie (Scott) McLaughlin of Chesterton; six grandchildren, Jeffrey (Micah) Henderson, Ft. Hood, TX, Mara Henderson, Royal Center, Ethan and Emma Pape, Valparaiso, and Eric and Patrick McLaughlin, Chesterton; brother, Ronald Henderson, Shelbyville; brother-in-law, Donald (Nancy) Clouser;  sister-in-law, Elizabeth Clouser (Stan) Machaj; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Henderson.

Mr. Henderson graduated from Waldron High School in 1965. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. He and his wife llived in Winamac for many years before moving to Valparaiso in 1986. He was a member of Pulaski County REACT. He had worked for Ford as a master mechanic and also held certification with the ASA. Since his retirement, he enjoyed chauffeuring his grandchildren back and forth to school and their sporting activities. He could often be seen in the front row watching and cheering them on. He often got in trouble from his children for spoiling the kids with treats - Papaw always had a soft touch for his grandkids. In his younger years, he was an avid fisherman on the Tippecanoe with his children and mother-in-law. He loved hunting, boating, camping, and traveling. He enjoyed race cars as a fan and driver.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 7, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac; and one hour prior to services at the church Friday. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. (Friday, April 8), at First United Methodist Church, Winamac with Pastor Dave Marty with officiating. Burial will be at Winamac Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services.

Memorial donations may be given to Wildlife Conservation and Education Endowment of Pulaski County. Its purpose is to promote and support wildlife conservation and habitat management, conservation education, and education in outdoor recreation with primary focus on hunting, fishing, trapping and shooting sports activities at the Winamac and Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Areas. Checks may be made out to the Community Foundation with Wildlife Conservation & Education Fund in the memo line.
