Alan G. Johnson

WINAMAC - Alan Gale Johnson, 74, of Burnettsville, formerly of Star City, passed away at 4:50 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 27, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 21, 1944 in Winamac to the late Albert Lee and Blanche Poor Johnson. He graduated from Star City High School in 1962, and served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1966. He married Annetta Faye Pugh on Dec. 12, 1967 in Winamac. She died Jan. 9, 2011.

Mr. Johnson had worked at Wilson Foods, the Braun Corporation, and he retired from Orion Safety Products in Peru. He had been a Star City Volunteer Fireman. He attended the Star City United Methodist Church and the Lake Cicott United Methodist Church. He had been a Little League coach in Star City. He enjoyed his wife and family. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He and his wife were avid motor cycle riders. He enjoyed his vegetable garden and photography, especially sunsets. He was an avid card player.
Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 30, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Frain Mortuary,Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. (Sunday), at the funeral home with Pastor Adam Speicher officiating. Burial will be at Star City West Cemetery, Star City. The VFW and American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
Memorial donations may be made to Salvation Army, Riley Chidren's Hospital Foundation or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

WINAMAC - Jeffrey Donald Puetz, 64, of Fowler, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 23, at Signature Health Care, Lafayette.
He was born Oct. 17, 1954 in Lafayette to Donald and Florence Sumpter Puetz. He was a lifelong resident of Benton County. He attended St. Mary's grade school and was a 1972 graduate of Benton Central High School.

Mr. Puetz worked for the Demeter elevator, driving a grain truck for several years. He enjoyed music, football and playing cards, as well as motorcycle riding and driving his Chevy truck. He also enjoyed writing letters to his nieces and nephews and often surprised them with a two-dollar bill. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fowler. He was always inspired to help the less fortunate, the food pantry being a favorite charity. He had a strong faith and looked toward St. Jude when times seemed hopeless or impossible.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dunnington. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. (Saturday), at the church with Rev. Peter Vanderkolk officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Dunnington.

FRANCESVILLE - Lorraine I. “Shorty” Hansen, 92, of Francesville, died at 6:49 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.
She was born July 7, 1926 in Chicago to the late Chester and Helen Ozimek Wroblewski. In 1944, she married Edward Garling. He died in 1969. She married Robert Hansen in 1985. He survives.

Mrs. Hansen was a member of the St. James Salem United Church of Christ, Francesville. She was a former member of the Catholic Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #228 Auxiliary in Francesville. She enjoyed crafting, baking cakes for her family, and crocheting. She also enjoyed dancing and playing games with her grandchildren. She was a great gift giver.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. A rosary service will be at 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Immediately following the rosary service, an American Legion Auxiliary service will be held. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, at St. James Salem United Church of Christ, Francesville, with Rev. Judith Doll and Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

WINAMAC - Lucille Marie “Lucy” White Thompson, 90, of Rochester, passed away at 11:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Life Care Center of Rochester.
She was born Feb. 1, 1928 in Wardell, MO to the late James Elmer and Hazel Alma Button White.

In her younger years, Mrs. Thompson worked in the cotton fields of Missouri. Having only completed the third grade, she was even so able to achieve a CNA license and worked in local nursing homes for over 30 years. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially flower gardening, fishing and caring for her pet squirrels. She was well-known for her homemade noodles. She also enjoyed collecting owl figurines. She loved children, especially looking after them at the bus stop. She cared for those children as if they were her own. Most of all, she loved her family very much. She will be sadly missed.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 21, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. (Friday), at the funeral home. Burial will be at Winamac Cemetery, Winamac.

October 22, 1925 to December 17, 2018
WINAMAC - Gladys Allen, 93, of Winamac (formerly of Merrillville) passed away at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17, at the Life Care Center of Rochester.
She was born Oct. 22, 1925 in Leachville, AR to the late Willie and Rosie Price Bellah. She married Leamon Allen on Feb. 16, 1955 in Gary. He passed away Sept. 17, 2011.

Mrs. Allen was a founding member of the Assembly of God Church in Winamac. She was proud to be a Master Beautician. She owned and operated her own beauty shop and also did hair at local nursing homes for years.She enjoyed cooking and baking as well as fishing and socializing. Most of all,She loved her family, especially the grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home with Pastors Heath Hiatt and Jim Howard officiating. Burial will be at Citizens Cemetery in Rochester.

FRANCESVILLE - Marian B. Alberding, 97, of Gatesville, TX (formerly of Jasper and Pulaski counties) passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, in Gatesville.
She was born April 5, 1921 in Chicago, to the late Jacob and Marie Hanus Kendzora. On Oct. 17, 1942, she married Kenneth Alberding. He preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 2017.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28, at First Baptist Church, Francesville. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., Friday, at the church with Pastor Dennis Gutwein officiating. Burial will be at San Pierre Cemetery, San Pierre.

She was born Aug. 24, 1963 in Chicago. She graduated from Portage High School in Portage. She had worked as a CNA at several different hospitals in the area.

Ms. Terry was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #96 in Medaryville. She loved animals and was known to rescue pit bulls from the animal shelter. She was a kind and generous woman who always opened her home and her heart to anyone in need. She cherished her friends and family, especially her children and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m., Monday, Decc.17, at New Beginnings Church, Winamac. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the Medaryville American Legion, Medaryville.
