Wanda Zahrt Garden Club of Indiana President |
Dedicated to service and promoting interest in gardening, in 2024 Zahrt was awarded the NGC Member of Honor Award and the TGCI Honeywell Horticulture Award. She has been a member of the TGCI Board of Directors since 2011 and is a 15-year member of the Iris-Elm Garden Club of Winamac.
Her career background includes banking and business, having earned a B.S. in Business from Indiana University South Bend. For much of her career she worked at the family business and served in many roles. After 40-plus years, she began a “retirement career” by getting back to her roots of gardening. She grew up on a small farm in East Tennessee and is not a stranger to vegetable and flower gardens - "mostly weeding."
Zahrt is the third elected Garden Club of Indiana president from Winamac. She follows Mrs. E. C. Gorrell (1938-1942) and Marie Richter Potts (1984-1986).
She and her husband David live in Winamac. He is also on the board of directors as the TGCI Scholarship Chairman, 2025-27 and treasurer. The couple have one daughter, Leeann Wright, who with her husband, Steven, and daughter, Nova Mae, also live in Winamac.
The Garden Club of Indiana, Inc. is a non-profit educational organization formed in 1930, and a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. With 47 clubs across the state, TGCI’s mission is to promote interest and education in horticulture, landscaping, floral design and environmental concerns.
