Marvin J. Good

July 5, 1948 to October 4, 2023

MONTICELLO - Marvin Joe Good, 75, of Kewanna passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Northwood Village Healthcare Center in Kokomo.

Born July 5, 1948 in Logansport, he was the son of the late Clement and Mildred (Phillips) Good. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his son Travis (Mary) Good of Wood River, Ill.; brother Gordon Good of Mooresville; and grandchildren Stephen Ryck, Andrew Good and William Good.

He was preceded in death by daughter, RaShawne Good, and sister-in-law Bonnie Good.

Mr. Good formerly worked for Wilson Foods in Cherokee, Iowa for more than 10 years and Tyson Foods in Logansport. He also worked at the Kewanna Public Library for 11 years. He was a member of Kewanna Church of Christ. He was an avid train enthusiast and he enjoyed painting by number, riding his motorcycle in his younger years and spending time with family and friends.

Services with military rites will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Metzger Chapel, Kewanna. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Kewanna Public Library.

Nenita Vargas Hedger

August 1, 1953 to October 3, 2023

WINAMAC - Nenita Vargas Hedger, 70, of Winamac, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Catanduanes Doctors Hospital in Virac, Catanduanes, Philippines.

She was born Aug. 1, 1953 to the late Frisco and Angustia Samonte Vargas in Codon, San Andres, Philippines. She married Jerry Hedger on Aug. 31, 1971, in Angeles City, Philippines. He survives.

Mrs. Hedger was a devoted member of the Roman Catholic faith. She enjoyed cooking and get-togethers with her Pinoy friends. She was deeply loved by her family and friends.

Funeral services were held earlier in the month in the Philippines with entombment taking place at San Andres Catholic Cemetery in San Andres, Philippines. A celebration of life event will be held at Jerry’s house at a later date.

William H. Mack Jr.

December 2, 1947 to October 2, 2023

WINAMAC - William Henry “Bill” Mack Jr., 75, of DeMotte (formerly of Winamac) passed away at 5:55 p.m., Monday, Oct. 2, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville.

He was born Dec. 2, 1947 in Mishawaka, to the late William Henry and Ruth Roseanna [Gee] Mack. He graduated from Monterey High School in 1965. The following year, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for three years, including 18 months in Korea. He received an honorable discharge on Nov. 6, 1969. He married Mary Beth Comer on March 5, 1972 in Lafayette. She passed away on Sept. 11, 2002.

Mr. Mack was a talented diesel mechanic, having worked at Patton Tractor in Hammond, as well as at Fair Oaks Farms and Bos Dairy both in Fair Oaks. Throughout his life, he enjoyed the outdoors and working on cars. Most of all, he loved his family very much, especially spending time with his grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors will be at 2 p.m. EDT (1 p.m. CDT) Saturday, Oct. 14, at Roselawn Cemetery in Roselawn. Burial will follow at the cemetery.

Laura J. Mack

July 22, 1980 to January 7, 2018

WINAMAC - Laura J. Mack, 37, of DeMotte, passed away Jan. 7, 2018 at Franciscan St. Anthony Hospital in Crown Point, with her loving family by her side. 

She was born July 22, 1980 in Rensselaer, to William and Mary [Comer] Mack. 

She is survived by:

She was preceded in death by:

Laura enjoyed riding her bike, shopping, and reading. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Roselawn, IN.

James Reid

February 9, 1959 to September 30, 2023

WINAMAC - James A. “Shoe” Reid, 64, of Star City, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, at Hickory Creek in Winamac.

He was born Feb. 9. 1959 in East St. Louis, IL to the late Donald E. and Matilda J. [Rustemeyer] Reid. He graduated from Winamac Community High School in 1978.

Mr. Reid worked as a welder at Galbreath for over 40 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and floating the river. He also enjoyed playing pool and collecting Budweiser beer steins. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, Indianapolis Colts, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He lived his life to the fullest and will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. (Sunday), at the funeral home with Rev. Dennis Faker officiating. Burial will be at Winamac Cemetery in Winamac.

William J. Stolz

May 8, 1938 to September 30, 2023

ROYAL CENTER - William John Stolz Sr., 85, of Winamac passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, surrounded by family.  

He was born May 8, 1938 in Midlothian, Ill. on May 8, 1938 to Robert and Josephine Stolz. He moved to Indiana in 2014 with his wife of 27 years, Joanne Stolz. Together they became a part of the Winamac community, as well as the Broken Arrow Campground.

He is survived by his wife, his children William (Bonnie) Stolz, James (Michael) Stolz, Gina (Eric) Sedlack and Nikki (Robert) Reeves; grandchildren Andrew, Allison, Brooklyn, Christopher, Jacob, London, Myles; sister Roberta and brother Arthur.

As a youth, Mr. Stolz excelled at sports and was the student council president at  Bremen High School in Midlothian when graduated in 1956. He attended Carthage College to study business administration and graduated in 1962. He married Susan Donnelly soon after and they had two children, James and William. While working at Harris bank in Chicago, he accepted a job at Campbell Soup Company and moved his family to the east coast. While there he became very active in local groups, including becoming the youngest school board president in the nation. In his life, he was the president of four school boards in two different states. He was also a little league baseball coach for his sons’ teams for six years. Their home was very active with friends and family, with his home being the house where all the neighborhood children hung out. He loved old cars, Babe Ruth and hunting and fishing. He was a loving and supportive father, even allowing his sons to have multiple pets, including a pair of pet skunks. Bill moved back to Illinois and met his wife, partner and soul mate Joanne (Cizmarik) Prez in 1994 and they married a few years later. He was a loving grandfather and enjoyed watching his granddaughter’s softball games and attended his granddaughter’s wedding just last month. He never lost his love of hunting and was out hunting in a tree stand until the age of 75. 

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 6, at the First Christian Church, Winamac. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
