New Winamac Clinic waiting area |
The 16,115 square- foot expansion more than doubles the size of the previous clinic, adding 22 new exam rooms and three new procedure rooms.
“Since the PMH Medical and Surgical Group was founded nine years ago, we have continuously been able to add world-class physicians and nurse practitioners to the group” said hospital CEO Tom Barry. “But with that growth comes the need to expand.”
Barry, who is retiring at the end of the year, said this expansion is the largest building project for PMH since the hospital’s opening in 1963. In addition to more exam rooms, the clinic’s layout will also be adjusted.
“The whole design of the expansion is for better patient care,” said Mark Boer, director of plant engineering. “From the main entrance that is easier to access to the way we set up provider hubs to allow for better collaboration, the primary goal was to increase the quality of care we provide to the community.”
Input and ideas for the expansion came from the providers and staff at the clinic.
“When we began to develop plans for the expansion, we wanted input from the individuals who were going to be working in the space,” said Will Fox, vice president of clinic operations. “One of our primary strategic goals is to be the provider of choice in our community, and we think this expansion reflects that. Our physicians and nurse practitioners are excited to start seeing patients in this new space.”
With the expansion opening, PMH will move on to the project’s next phase. The hospital will demolish and replace an older structure to make room for more parking closer to the clinic’s entrance and provide the hospital with some additional meeting space and a new decontamination unit that can also be used for COVID-19 testing.
Steve Jarosinski, who will begin his time as CEO on Jan. 1, is thrilled about the opening. “You can see the thought and detail that went into the expansion” he said. “Tom (Barry), the board of trustees, and our providers and staff all worked hard to develop the best space possible for the community – and we think our patients will agree. I especially want to thank Tom for his leadership over the years to grow the hospital, our medical staff, and a group of associates committed to the health and wellbeing of all those we serve.”
With all the changes in the coming weeks, signage has been installed to direct patients to the new clinic. However, hospital officials urge patients to call the Winamac Clinic at (574) 946-2194 with any questions.
