Rep. Yakym with Deputy Parish (center) |
Yakym made stops in Indiana’s Second District for his “Highlighting Hoosier Heroes” tour the week of May 26 in conjunction with Memorial Day. Surprise Congressional Record presentations were made Tuesday for Parish and Carr, first at the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office in Winamac and later at Culver High School.
In April, Parish, along with Buffalo volunteer fireman Mike Anderson, helped rescue a man from a house fire.
“Across the Hoosier state, we are blessed with everyday heroes, men and women who selflessly run toward danger when others flee,” Yakym said. “Deputy Parish and volunteer firefighter Mike Anderson demonstrated extraordinary courage and quick thinking in April, and their fearless actions undoubtedly saved a life. They exemplify the Hoosier spirit and serve as an inspiration to us all.”

Rep. Yakym with Chief Carr |
At the Culver stop, Yakym said “Chief Ryleigh Carr has been a pillar of strength and service. Whether as a coach, school resource officer, or now as Chief of the Community Police Department, her leadership and unwavering commitment have made a lasting impact. Her recent award of the Regional Exceptional Service Award for Region 5 is well-deserved and reflects her deep dedication to the safety and well-being of others.”
The recognition of Deputy Parish and Chief Carr comes as Congressman Yakym launches his “Highlighting Hoosier Heroes” tour in conjunction with Memorial Day. Over the weekend, he delivered remarks at the South Bend Cubs’ Military Appreciation Night, and on Monday he participated in the Nappanee Memorial Day Ceremony to honor those who serve and have served our country.
