September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. A library card sparks creativity and empowers all people to explore new passions and pursue a path of lifelong learning. This month, anyone – child through adult – who signs up for a new library card will get a coupon for a free tasty treat. The library is also offering free replacements for lost or damaged library cards this month. Residents of the PCPL district can sign up for a digital library card on the library’s website. Come in, call, or go online to learn more about how to sign up for your PCPL library card.
Come to our children’s area on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10 or 11:30 a.m. for Grandparents Day Story Time. We’ll read stories, sing, participate in rhyming activities, play, and make a craft.
All ages and skill levels are welcome at Yoga at the Library. A limited number of yoga mats are available; bring yours if you have one. Sign-up is encouraged – call the library to reserve your spot. Sessions will be held:

Ellen from the Tippecanoe River State Park will guide kids as they Explore the Natural World around them to search for interesting phenomena and signs of the beginning of fall at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Participate in a Guided Meditation at 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12. Mindfulness meditation can help to reduce stress, improve concentration, and increase self-awareness. You do not need any prior experience with meditation or any special equipment to participate in this program. Sign-up is encouraged. Call the library at 574-946-3432 to reserve your spot.
We’ve installed new doors in our entryways and new shelving in our Children’s Area. Join us for a LTC Grant Award Ribbon-Cutting at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 13. The new doors and shelves will be more accessible for all users, including people with disabilities. These projects were informed by input from the public and made possible through two Libraries Transforming Communities grants. Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities is an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) in collaboration with the Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL).
Book Club will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 13. The book up for discussion is Outlawed by Anna North. The meeting will take place in the Magnolia Room at the library. We can email a Zoom link to any attendees who wish to participate virtually who register in advance. To sign up, call the library at 574-946-3432. A second Outlawed Book Club session will be held at Tippy’s Grappa Room at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24. Copies of the book are available to check out at the library.
We’re ready to teach and play games with you at Board Games for All Ages. The library will have board games set up, including games specifically for adults, at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 14.
Financial fraud is so prevalent in society today, and the criminals are always coming up with new ways to take advantage and scheme you out of your hard-earned money. Come to Lunch & Learn with Alliance Bank at 12 noon, Monday, Sept. 16, to learn about the different types of fraud we are seeing, along with ways to prevent it happening to you or a loved one.
Teen Activity Board will meet at 4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16. These gatherings feature a fun mix of activities, education, and food for all participants. All local teens ages 12-18 are welcome to attend.
National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, Sept. 17. If you’ve moved, changed your name, or haven’t voted in a while, now’s a good time to check your voter registration. Visit www.indianavoters.in.gov to register to vote or to check and update your registration. Library staff will be on-hand on National Voter Registration Day if you need help with your registration.
Chair Yoga is a gentle movement exercise that can be done while sitting on a chair. It’s a great option for people who have limited mobility or are otherwise unable to practice traditional yoga. Join us for a session at the library at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17. Sign-up is encouraged – call the library to reserve your spot.
Shelley from Pulaski County Soil & Water Conservation District will visit the library to share All About Beavers! Kids will learn about how beavers live, see a beaver pelt and beaver tail, and make a craft. This kids’ program will be at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Join us for an evening of creativity at our “Canvas & Beyond” Adult Canvas Painting workshop from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19. All materials will be provided for the class. Space is limited; advance sign-up is required. Call the library to reserve your spot.
During Banned Books Week Sept. 22-28 we celebrate the freedom to select your own reading materials and affirm our commitment to ensuring access to any material a person chooses to read. Stop by the library this week and view a display of books that have been challenged throughout the years and learn more.
The library will host a Community Banned Book Discussion at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26. The book up for discussion is Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews. Pick up a free copy of the book at the library – while supplies last.
Join us for a special Bluey Story Time & Birthday Celebration Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m., and again at 11:30 a.m. for stories, snacks and more.
Regular Programs:
Kids can use their imaginations to make amazing creations with Legos at Lego Builders from 3:30 to 6 p.m., Mondays.
E-Sports is our newest program for teens. At E-Sports, teens get together to play video games from Mario Kart to Minecraft. This program is open to all local teenagers and meets weekly at the library on Mondays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Come in for Story Time and activities for toddlers on Toddler Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. If you can’t make it in the morning, Afternoon Story Time is held Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m.
Are you new to Genealogy? Not sure where to start? Come to Genealogy Help from 3 to 5 p.m., Tuesdays, when Malissa is on hand to help you use the library’s genealogy collection. This weekly program is held upstairs in the Delores “Dee” Galbreath Local History Room.
The library shows a Family Movie suitable for all ages every Wednesday at 3 p.m. Visit the library’s website to see what is playing on a particular date.
On Thursday mornings at 10:30, Duplo bricks and larger blocks are available for toddlers to play with at Toddler Legos.
The library’s collection of Board Games for all ages is available on Thursdays after school.
