Dennis E. Hartley

May 5, 1979 to September 4, 2014

DEMOTTE - Dennis E. Hartley, 35, of Wheatfield, passed away Thursday, Sept. 4,

He was born May 5, 1979, in Duluth, Minn. to Dennis R. Hartley and Regina E. Galloway.

He is survived by his wife Holly (Phegley); children, Bryant, Ariana and Derek; parents, Dennis R. (Judith) Hartley of Francesville, and Regina E. Peloquin of Jennings, LA; sister, Michelle Hartley of Anderson, S. C.; brothers, Shane (Roxann) Hartley of Medaryville, and Air Force SMSgt. Chad (Melissa) Hartley of Alconbury, England.

Mr. Hartley was a 1997 graduate of West Central High School. He was a member of the Electrical Union, IBEW 697. He was an avid fisherman and Notre Dame fan.

Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Jackson Funeral Service in DeMotte, with a funeral service following at 7 p.m., (Tuesday, Sept. 9) at the funeral home with Pastor Tony King officiating. (In honor of Dennis, please dress casually in your Notre Dame attire.)

Bradley A. Penicaro

December 19, 1955 to September 12, 2014

ROCHESTER - Bradley Allen Penicaro, 58, of Kewanna, passed away at 5:52 p.m., Friday, Sept. 12, at St. Vincent Hospital of Carmel.

On Dec. 19, 1955, he was born in Winamac to the late Frank and Annabelle Stepp Penicaro. He married Cathy Ann Reinhold on Dec. 6, 1974 at the Calvary Baptist Church of Winamac. She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter: Gina Oaf and husband Michael of Royal Center; two sons: David Penicaro and companion Jo Lynn Behny Plowman of Winamac; Steve Penicaro, of Ocean Springs, MS; 8 grandchildren: Spencer Penicaro, Alexis Penicaro, Ryan Oaf, Daulton Oaf, Bradley Penicaro, Anthony Penicaro, Michael Richard Oaf, Hunter Moses; a great granddaughter: Paisyn Johnson; two sisters: Tina Kasten and husband Mike of Winamac; Penni Hilton and husband Floyd of Yuma, AZ; two brothers, Dan Penicaro and wife Ellen of Greenville, SC; Timothy Penicaro of Rochester; sister-in-law: Debra Penicaro of Star City and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his grandparents, a brother: James Penicaro and several aunts and uncles.

Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday; and one hour prior to the service at the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester. A celebration of the life of Bradley Allen Penicaro will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, (Sept. 18), at the funeral home with Pastor Dave Norris officiating. Interment will be in McKinley Memorial Gardens, Winamac.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Fulton County Cancer Fund through the Northern Indiana Community Foundation.

Elsie E. Klampe

March 2, 1918 to September 7, 2014

WINAMAC - Elsie Ellen Klampe, 96, of Winamac, died at 6:50 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7, at her residence.

She was born March 2, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Elza and Millie Rhode Moullenhour.She married Arlyn Klampe on Oct. 26, 1941 in South Bend. He died July 2, 2014.

Survivors include: 
Several nieces and great nieces 

Mrs. Klampe was a member of the First Baptist Church of Denham, Pulaski County Farm Bureau and Home Ec Club. She was a member of the Bunco Club for 52 years.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., (Saturday, Sept. 13), at the funeral home with Pastor Carl Lendermon officiating.  Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial donations may be given to First Baptist Church of Denham.

 

Charles E. Pinks

May 3, 1946 to September 2, 2014

FRANCESVILLE - Charles Edward Pinks, 68, Francesville, passed away at 8:47 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, at his daughter's home in Francesville. 

He was born on May 3, 1946 in Martin, KY to the late Caloup and Ruth Salyers Pinks. He married Carol Jean Stout on July 18, 1966 in Bailey's Corner, IN. She survives.

Mr. Pinks was a Vietnam veteran. He honorably served with the U.S. Army 919th Engineer Company 11th Armored Cavalry. He was a member of the Francesville American Legion Post #228 and Winamac VFW Post #1728. He was a lifetime member of the Blackhorse Association. He loved God very much and enjoyed reading the Bible. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He liked bluegrass music. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a hero to each of his daughters. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.,Thursday at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday (Sept. 5), at the funeral home with Rev. Edward Clark officiating. Burial will be at Koster Cemetery, Francesville. The American Legion and VFW will conduct Military Graveside Services.

Mary E. Lowe

April 27, 1930 to August. 25, 2014

CASSOPOLIS, MICH. - Mary E. Lowe, 84, of Cassopolis, Mich. died Monday morning, Aug. 25,at her home.

She was born April 27, 1930 in Monterey, to Henry and Helen (Sheaks) Chaney, the second eldest of four girls. She married Alfred Eugene “Bud” Lowe Dec. 24, 1949 in Knox. They enjoyed more than 64 years of marriage until his passing Jan. 19, 2014.

She is survived by two daughters, Karon (Marcus) Wagner of Middlebury, Chrystal Teeter of Cassopolis; two sons, Thomas Lowe of Constantine, Mich. and James Lowe of White Pigeon, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by one daughter, Katrina Lowe; one son, Timmy Lowe; and three sisters, Bessie Bauer, Dorothy Burkett, and Nadine Burkett.

Mrs. Lowe attended school in Monterey where she graduated with high honors in 1948. She and her husband moved to Cassopolis in 1972 where they worked side by side on their farm. She had a roadside stand on Brownsville Road where she enjoyed and took pride in selling sweet corn and many other fresh vegetables that they had grown on their farm. The family remembers people coming from miles around for the watermelons and pumpkins. She also enjoyed bird watching and flowers. Every Sunday the aroma of fried chicken came from Mary’s kitchen as she teased her family about “slaving over the hot stove” for them. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Family and friends will gather at 2 p.m., Tuesday (Sept. 2), for a graveside service at Reames and Norton Cemetery, south of Cassopolis.

The family prefers memorial donations be made in Mrs. Lowe’s name to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38101-9908.

Jonathan D. Powers

December 1, 1936 to August 25, 2014

PLANO, TEXAS - Jonathan Dixie Powers, 77, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, at his home in Plano, Texas, surrounded by family after a long battle with lung problems.

He was born Dec. 1, 1936, in Winamac, a son of the late Thurman Earl and Ethel Kuntz. On Jan 2, 1960, he married Shirley Ann Scott. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Julie Schoerke of Nashville, Diane Groves and husband, Mark of Plano, and Jill Powers, formerly of Plano; and 4 grandchildren, Chandler and Amanda Schoerke of Nashville, and Benjamin and Madeline Groves of Plano.

Mr. Powers grew up in South Bend, and graduated from Riley High School, and continued his education at Indiana University where he graduated with honors with a degree in radio-television creative writing. He served three years as a motion picture project officer in the U. S. Air Force. After his service he worked for Centron Corporation in Lawrence, Kansas, where he created educational films and produced films for many Fortune 500 companies. He left Centron as general manager in 1986. The last job of his career was at the Missouri Department of Conservation where he was director of public affairs and enjoyed being the voice for the wonderful wildlife of Missouri. He and his wife enjoyed 20 years in Jefferson City. In 2006 he moved to Plano, Texas, where he and his wife could be near family and 2 of their 4 grandchildren. Throughout his life he loved to fish. When it was too cold to fish, he loved woodworking. He took great pride in making pieces of furniture used by the family including two cradles for grandbabies. He was a voracious reader, a love for literature that he passed on to his family. For 54 years he showed the love of his life how much he cared and was always her best friend. He always put his family first and was his children's No. 1 fishing buddy, home-work checker, storyteller, project mentor, "leprechaun hunter," bedtime story-reader, and consoler.

A private memorial service will be held Sept. 6. 

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Nature Conservancy in Arlington, Virginia.

Julie Anspach

March 23, 1932 to September 1, 2014

WINAMAC - Julie E. Anspach, 82, of Winamac, died at 7:20 a.m., Monday, Sept. 1,  at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac. 

She was born March 23, 1932, in South Bend, to Alex and Esti Raszipovits. She married Richard Budd April 26, 1965 in South Bend. He died Nov. 11, 1987. She married Carl M. Anspach on Sept. 7, 1991 in Rochester. He survives.

Mrs. Anspach was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rochester. She was a member of the Panhandle Pathway. She and her husband enjoyed playing Euchre and spending winters in Ft. Myers, Fla. She was a frequent traveler. She also enjoyed playing shuffleboard, feeding ducks and also geese at the town park. She loved working in her flower garden and attending Winamac Community High School sporting events. She enjoyed attending craft shows and musical concerts. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. 

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac; and one hour prior to service Friday. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday (Sept. 5), at the funeral homewith Rev. Bert Woolson officiating. Burial will be at Winamac Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial donations may be given to Pulaski County Human Services, American Diabetes Association or the Pan Handle Pathway.
