WINAMAC - Rita G. Szymoniak, 89, 2872 E 550 S, Star City, died at 7:25 a.m., Thursday, May 13, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.

She was born April 20, 1921, in Hammond, to Byron and Ethel Alderson Chandler. She married Andrew Szymoniak on Jan. 9, 1940, in Hammond. He died March 12, 1968.

Mrs. Szymoniak was a member of Eagle's #2580 Auxillary, Winamac, and the Moose Lodge Auxillary #1535, Monticello. She was the sergeant-at-arms for the LaPorte County Council of Clubs, and the Indiana State Council of Clubs. She moved to the Winamac area in 1981, coming from Calumet City, IL.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday,  at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The Eagle's Auxillary will conduct services at 7 p.m., Monday, in the funeral home. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday (May 18), at the funeral home with Rev. Glen Meyers officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. A committal service will be at 12:30 p.m. (CDT), Tuesday, at the cemetery.
