Harold L. Smith
November 16, 1935 to October 25, 2021
WINAMAC - Harold L. Smith, 85, of Winamac, passed away at 6:38 p.m., Monday, Oct. 25.
He was born Nov. 16, 1935 in to the late Harvey L. and Lillian M. Olson Smith. He was a 1954 graduate of Monterey High School and served two years in the U.S. Army. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Olivet University and a master’s degree from Indiana University. On Oct. 20, 1956, he married Josie M. Jarvis. She passed away Oct. 8, 2016.

As a teen, Mr. Smith gave his life to the Lord and was baptized at Lawton Christian Church. He was an inspirational teacher who touched the lives of so many students over the years. His teaching career spanned 35 years at Winamac Elementary School. He lived by example and encouraged others to always do their best. “Good, better, best; never let it rest, until your good is better and your better is best.”
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 1, at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Gladding officiating. Burial will be at Reed Cemetery in Winamac. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services.
