Donald L. Markin

December 10, 1935 to May 7, 2021

FRANCESVILLE - Donald L. “Don” Markin, 85, of Buffalo, passed away Friday, May 7, in Cincinnati, surrounded by his family. He had been living in Cincinnati due to health concerns.

He was born Dec. 10, 1935, on the family farm in Buffalo to the late Orvel R. and Edna C. Dart Markin. He was a 1954 graduate of Pulaski High School and served in the U.S. Army for three years. He married Carolyn Jo Hoover on May 8, 1955 in Winamac. She passed away on Feb. 22, 2010.

Mr. Markin spent his career managing the grain elevator in Francesville, retiring in 2000. He was a longtime member (44 years) and former chief of the Francesville Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Francesville First Christian Church. He enjoyed volunteering at the Humanitarian Distribution Center in Francesville. Most of all, he loved his family, friends, community, and the family farm.

Visitation will be from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville. The funeral service will follow at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home with Pastor James Ketchen officiating. A recording of the service will be shared on the funeral home website. Private burial with military honors provided by the American Legion will be at Roseland Cemetery in Francesville.

Memorial donations may be made to Francesville First Christian Church, Humanitarian Distribution Center, or Francesville Volunteer Fire Department.
