Edward W. Hooker
WINGATE – Edward Wayne Hooker, age 73, of Brookston, passed away at 8:44 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2019, in Kindred Hospital Indianapolis North.
He was born in Lafayette, April 14, 1946, son of Harold W. and Mary L. Robinson Hooker. He married Laura Jean ‘Sam’ Props, Nov. 7, 1981, in the Brookston United Methodist Church. She survives.
Also surviving are his father; Harold W. Hooker of Francesville; sons Neal (Lyndsay) Hooker, Greenwood, and Chad (Kati) Hooker, Delphi; a sister Connie (Tim) Sullivan of Ridgeville; and grandsons, Cooper and Cole.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary, and grandparents Otto and Julia Hooker.
Mr. Hooker grew up on a farm west of Francesville, attended Gillam Grade School and graduated from Francesville High School with the class of 1964. He served with the Indiana National Guard from 1964-1970. He always liked nice cars, especially fast cars. Following high school he worked a few years in the ‘steel mills’ until he was hired by the old Monon Railroad (The Hoosier Line). He was then an engineer for L & N Railroad and retired after 40 years from CSX Transportation. He belonged to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He enjoyed football, especially the Indianapolis Colts, ‘March Madness’ and Purdue sports.
Visitation hours are 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, June 22, at Faith West Church Community Center (1920 Northwestern Ave., West Lafayette, 47906) with the funeral service following visitation at 6 p.m., at the church, with pastors from the church officiating. A private family inurnment will be at a later date.
