September 14, 1945 to May 23, 2018

WINAMAC - Dean Scott, 72, of Valparaiso, passed away at 1:40 a.m., Wednesday, May 23, at VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso.

He was born Sept. 14, 1945 on the family farm in Pulaski. In his youth, he was active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He also spent several years working at Russell's Old Trading Post in Winamac. He graduated from Winamac High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam Conflict. On April 17, 1999, he married Carol L. Rowland Shipley in Hobart. She survives.

Mr. Scott retired from Inland Steel Co. of East Chicago, in 2007. He was a proud member of United Steel Workers Union Local #1010 in East Chicago. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a supporter of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and traveling with his wife. He was an avid reader and antique enthusiast. He also enjoyed the outdoors and was a supporter of nature preservation and land reclamation. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. Family was everything to him. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 29, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 30, at the funeral home with Rev. Jeff Seger officiating. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services.

Memorial donations may be made to Winamac First Christian Church or Pulaski Health Care Center.
