William R. DePoy

July 29, 1956 to August 31, 2014

WINAMAC - William Raymond "Bill" DePoy, 58, Winamac, passed away at 11:09 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 31, at Franciscan St. Anthony Health, Michigan City, surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 29, 1956 in Logansport, to Herbert Sr. and Mary Zellers DePoy. He married Linda Pierce on Jan. 16, 1999, in Denham,. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons Gerry B. (Sandy) Pratt and Shawn Michael DePoy, both of Winamac; two daughters Katie Eileen (Adam) Fritz, North Judson, and Jamie L. Ellis, Winamac, eight grandchildren, Kylie Jo Fritz, Kegan William Fritz, Aleah Ann Marie Fritz, Faith M. Pratt, Shaun D. Pratt, Austin D. Pratt, Talon Arjay Ellis St. Clair, and Desiree Marie Applegate. He is also survived by his father Herbert Francis DePoy Sr., Winamac, a brother Herbert F. (Kathy) DePoy Jr., New Braunfels, TX, and sisters Hazel R. White, North Judson, and Meda J. (John) Lindley, Knoxville, TN, and many nephews and nieces. 

He was preceded in death by a son William Karl DePoy, his mother Mary K. Zellers DePoy, and his brother-in-law Jimmey White.

Mr. DePoy graduated from North Judson-San Pierre High School in 1974, and was looking forward to attending his 40th high school reunion this summer. Over the years, he was employed by Norwayne Lumber and the town of North Judson Water Department. He was formerly a volunteer fireman and reserve police officer for North Judson. His most fulfilling career of over 20 years was as an Advanced EMT for both Starke and Pulaski counties. His final career was as an over-the-road truck driver.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A celebration of life service will follow at 2 p.m., (Saturday, Sept. 6), at the funeral home. Rev. Matt Landry will officiate at the service. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial donations may be given to a college fund for Mr. DePoy's son Shawn.
