Marcella J. Boehning

November 15, 1924 to July 10, 2013

GREENWOOD - Marcella J. (Alkire) Boehning, 88, of Lafayette, passed away peacefully July 10, at The Hearth at Stone Crossing Assisted Living in Greenwood.

She was born to the late Virgie T. and John Alkire of Francesville, on Nov. 15, 1924.

During World War II, she served in the Women’s Army Corp (WAC), stationed in San Antonio, TX. After the war, she married Leland L. Boehning of Medaryville. They had two children, Tamara (John) Truitt of Columbus, OH. and Gregg (Marcia) Boehning of Greenwood.

She leaves five grandchildren: Emily Truitt Robinson, Allyson Boehning (John) Olsen, Julie Truitt (Mike) Adams, John Truitt, III, Matthew (Lindsay) Boehning, and eight great-grandchildren: Truitt, Mary-Sanford, and Walker Robinson; Sarah and Maggie Adams; Avery and Brynn Olsen; and Benjamin Boehning. Also surviving are Marjorie Robinson, sister and Bob Bill Alkire, brother.

She was preceded in death by granddaughter, Kathryn Boehning; husband, Lee Boehning; four brothers, and one sister.

Mrs. Boehning was a long-time resident of Lafayette, where she worked many years and retired from Lafayette National Bank. After retirement, she loved volunteering at her church, working part-time at Purdue University’s Tarkington Hall, and giving of her time at the Lafayette Food Pantry.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the First Christian Church, 329 N. 6th St. Lafayette.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First Christian Church in her memory.
