Geraldine Calloway
November 11, 1927 to March 7, 2013
ROYAL CENTER - Geraldine Patricia Calloway, 85, formerly of San Antonio, Texas and Star City, passed away at 1:55 a.m., Thursday, March 7, at Hickory Creek at Winamac.
Born on Nov. 11, 1927 in San Antonio, she was the daughter of William R. and Beatrice H. (Tijerina) Flynn. She married Richard Lee Smith, Sr. on Jan. 26, 1948, and later married Bill J. Calloway on Jan. 8, 1966, both of whom were in the U. S. Air Force.
Survivors include her daughter, Constance “Connie” Laraine Maxson of Star City; son, Richard “Rick” Lee [Michiko] Smith, Jr., of Tallasee, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Elaine [Marvin] Stone of Jones, Okla; four grandchildren: Tracey [Brandon] Collins of Monterey, Kari Stout [John Haley] of Winamac, Erina Smith and Elisia Smith both of Fountain, Colo.; two step-grandchildren: Kelly Carlson of Oklahoma and Valerie [James] Carlson Stewart of Oklahoma.; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law, Betty Flynn; cousin, Arlis Harvey; and numerous family and friends from all over the world.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William “Billy” Flynn, Jr. of Florida in 2011; son-in-law Terry L. Maxson of Star City in 2012; and stepdaughter, Carol Calloway Ford Shotts of Oklahoma in 2010.
Mrs. Calloway went to school in San Antonio until her senior year when the family moved to Ft. Sumner, New Mexico, and she graduated there. She loved to travel and visited Japan and numerous European and Mediterranean countries. She lived and worked in Texas, New Mexico, Japan and Germany. In her work career, she was especially proud to have worked at the Helium Activity in Amarillo, Texas in the 1960s. She also worked with the 165th Military Intelligence in Frankfurt, Germany (branch of 66th MI, Munich, Germany) in the 1970s. She retired from her civilian career with the government as a ward clerk at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas in 1987. She moved from San Antonio to Star City in 1999 to be near her daughter and family. She loved to garden and take care of her cats.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday (March 15), at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, 304 S. Chicago St., Royal Center. Interment and graveside services will be in Ft. Sumner, New Mexico at a later date.
