Michael C. Velligan

October 4, 1953 to November 14, 2012

WINAMAC - Michael Carey Velligan, 59, of Las Vegas, died Nov. 14..

He was born Oct. 4, 1953 in LaPorte, to the late Michael and Barbara Mae Thompson Velligan.

He is survived by his partner, Mitch Savar, sister Vivian Puetz (William), brother Steve Velligan (Bethany), Stepsons Chris (Veronica) Thompson, George Thompson III, Jeffrey Savar, stepdaughters Lori Savar, Kristi Walters (Mike), 3 nieces, 2 nephews and 6 great nieces/nephews, 9 grandchildren and numerous cousins throughout the U.S.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Barbara, sister, Camila Velligan and partner of 32 years, George Thompson.

Growing up, Mr. Velligan was a Boy Scout and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. After attending Purdue University he relocated to San Diego, and then to Phoenix. He was an accomplished millwright on the Palo Verde and San Onofre nuclear power plants. After surviving a 25,000 volt electrical accident, He retired to Monticello,  relaxing in his lakefront home. After a brief move to Bend, Oregon, he relocated to Las Vegas where he enjoyed the climate and peacefulness of his home. Those who were touched by him understood his extremely large heart and his fun loving personality. He was always ready to help those around him, he always had a joke or an amazing life time story. He loved being with his family, he enjoyed his computer games, woodworking, gardening and crossword puzzles.

A celebration of life was held the night before he passed in his room at Odyssey Hospice with friends and family. The family extends thanks to Pastor Rudy of Calvary Chapel for his prayers and blessings. Mr. Velligan will be laid to rest in Star City, next to his mother and sister.
