Henry J. Kolar

February 19, 1919 to September 13, 2012

WINAMAC - Henry J. Kolar, 93, of Winamac, passed away at 12:40 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, in Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.

He was born Feb. 19, 1919, in Brookfield, IL, to the late Frank and Anne Nemiec Kolar. He married Helen Novotny on May 10, 1941. They lived in Illinois until retiring to Missouri in the early 1980s. In 1993, Helen preceded him in death after 52 years of marriage and two children.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Lee Clausen Kolar, whom he married in Winamac on Sept. 24, 1994.

Throughout most of Mr. Kolar's life, he worked as an auto mechanic. He worked for the CTA in Chicago for 30 years. He was in charge of the annual CTA employee picnic for many years. He enjoyed fixing cars at home and finding time to fish at Table Rock Lake in Blue Eye, MO. He served with the U.S. Army 95th Infantry Division "Iron Men of Metz" during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post #1728 in Winamac.

Friends may call from 12 noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 4 p.m., (Wednesday, Sept. 19), at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Abbott officiating. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military honors at the funeral home following the service.
