Lewis J. Thomas

April 6, 1929 to September 12, 2012

WINAMAC - Lewis John Thomas, 83, of Winamac, died at 4:10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette.

He was born April 6, 1929, in Winamac. He married Frances M. Lausten in January 1969. She died July 20, 2011.

Mr. Thomas was a member of the Community Seventh Day Adventist Church in Monterey. He was adopted and raised by his grandparents, James and Pearl May Allen Thomas. The only time he left the farm in Winamac was to serve in the Korean War in the early 1950s. He continued to work the family farm until just before his death. He enjoyed servin in his church where he was often the first to visit the sick, offer a ride to the disabled, and pray for those who needed prayer.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m., Sunday, at Community Seventh Day Adventist Church, Monterey. The funeral service will follow at 2  p.m. (Sunday, Sept. 16), at the church with Pastor Bryce Bowman officiating. Burial will be in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac

Memorial donations may be given to the Community Seventh Day Adventist Church.
