Mr. Goble was a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University and attended one year of graduate school at Indiana University. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Winamac, where he served for many years as the Sunday School Superintendent and as a board member. He also served on the board of trustees of Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, IL, for 26 years, and on the advisory board for the Northwest Indiana District Church of the Nazarene for 32 years. He was a long-standing member of Gideons International.
Mr. Goble served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1944, just months after he and Maxine married, his unit was shipped overseas. He was a staff sergeant in the 99th Infantry Division. On Dec. 18th, his unit was captured by the Germans at the Battle of the Bulge. He was in a POW Camp at Stalag XIII-C for 6 months until the war ended. His war stories are now in print and available from his daughter, Margaret Steinacker or on Amazon. The book, written by Rose Goble, is entitled, Captured. Mr. Goble was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Goble worked for many years at Goble Olds and International Harvestor Tractors and Equipment business. Later he served as the trust officer at First Union Bank. When First National Bank of Monterey opened its branch in Winamac, he became the manager until he retired.
First and foremost, Mr. Goble loved the Lord. That love spilled into his daily life with his family and others. He was continually helping someone whether spiritually, emotionally, or financially. His outgoing personality and genuine concern for others will always be remembered as his legacy.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, at Frain Mortuary; and after 9 a.m., Monday at the church. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., (Monday, June 18), at the Winamac Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. David Webb officiating. Burial will be in Paul's Chapel Cemetery, rural Winamac.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion and the VFW.
Memorial donations may be given to Gideons International.
