FRANCESVILLE - Students from four area high schools meet each month as the Alliance Bank Junior Board of Directors. The students learn about career opportunities within local businesses and perform community service. Minix has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for aggravated battery, confinement and intimidation, Pulaski County Prosecutor Kelly Gaumer reported in an announcement Dec. 22. A Pulaski Circuit Court jury convicted Minix of the lead charge in addition to confinement and intimidation last month. WINAMAC – Pulaski Memorial Hospital will close its obstetrics department and no longer offer maternity services as of mid-January. The decision was made Dec. 14 at an emergency meeting of the PMH board of trustees. “Over the past several months, we have had significant difficulty recruiting additional staff to our OB/maternity department in order to maintain the high-quality standards that all patients deserve and expect from PMH,” said hospital CEO Tom Barry. “COVID-19 has greatly impacted the healthcare industry, with nursing staffs around the country being particularly affected. With so few maternity nurses available, our medical staff and senior leadership felt it best to close the OB/maternity department instead of trying to operate at less than optimal staffing levels.” Serving the children WINAMAC – The Winamac Kiwanis Club celebrated its 100th anniversary Monday evening, Dec. 6 – on the exact date it received its charter a century earlier “at a festive banquet at the Winamac community hall on Dec. 6, 1921,” according a newspaper report at the time. About six weeks earlier, the new club was organized Oct. 25, 1921 with the assistance of visiting Kiwanians from Logansport, Plymouth and LaPorte in the “largest, liveliest and peppiest meeting of businessmen that has perhaps ever been held in Winamac,” according to an article two days later in the Pulaski County Democrat.
