Former coroner Frain’s name was already on the November election ballot. He was re-elected, but notified party chairman Daniel Murphy he would not serve as coroner for the new term beginning on Jan. 1. Thus, the Dec. 15 caucus was called.
Murphy reported a quorum was present at Thursday’s caucus. The precincts represented were as follows: Cass, Franklin, Harrison, Indian Creek, Jefferson, Monroe #1, Monroe #2, Monroe #3, Monroe # 4, Rich Grove, Salem, Tippecanoe, Van Buren, and White Post. Absent were Beaver and Monroe #2. Representatives of Beaver, Franklin Monroe #2, and Tippecanoe Precincts did not attend.
The candidate was given a three-minute opportunity to speak to the caucus. The caucus members were given an opportunity to ask questions of the candidate. A voice vote was called for by the chairman to approve the candidate. Johns was approved unanimously. The four-year term of office will commence Jan. 1.
