In the superintendent’s report, Dr. Rowe noted the following:
- She gave an update on work with Tecton consultants, saying they have reached out to three architect/design firms, with one design firm backing out. The other two design firms will be on site in the coming weeks to review the status in the band and choir rooms. They will return to the board in August to present drawings and renderings of improvements that could be made to the space.
- The board will have a budget work session before the Aug. 4 meeting.
- She reported student registration opens Aug. 1. During the following week Aug. 8 is new teacher orientation, Aug. 9 is Meet the Teacher night, and Aug.t 11 is the first student day.
- The district currently has openings for an athletic director, sixth grade teacher, and music teacher.
- School officials are keeping an eye on elementary enrollments to determine class sizes as they get closer to school starting. They will know more once parents have registered their children for school.
- Superintendent Rowe encouraged parents who may be interested in bringing their child/children to West Central who live outside the district to fill out transfer paperwork at the buildings.
Superintendent Rowe, a native of Rensselaer, previously served as an administrator at North Newton, Tri-County and Frontier schools. She succeeds Dan Zylstra as superintendent at West Central.

A transfer was approved for Kristin Girton – Cooperative School Services.
The board approved the following for employment:

- Rebecca Shepperd - Director of Food Services
- Kelsey Hershman - Custodian
- Shelley Watts - Custodian
- Steven VanDerAa - Cooperative School Services
- Melissa Gutierrez - Cooperative School Services
- Emily Bridgeman - Cooperative School Services
Action items
The school board approved the 2022-23 student meal prices, as presented. They will be as follows:
- Elementary school breakfast - $1.35
- Elementary school lunch - $2.45
- Middle/high school breakfast - $1.50
- Middle/high school lunch - $3.00
The board voted to approve authorization of the superintendent to sign agreements for alternative and private residential school placements.
