This project is one way to provide additional leadership tools for the leaders who serve the county.
Pulaski County Clerk JoLynn Behny said, “Having this opportunity for our elected officials to receive training will only benefit our community. Educated and informed leaders are essential for our county to grow and thrive.”
All elected officials are encouraged to fill out this brief survey and return it to the Community Foundation no later than Wednesday, Feb. 24.
In April, the Community Foundation plans to host a gathering of the 2020 Excellence in Nonprofit Management Training cohort to allow the group a chance to share challenges and successes as well as look at opportunities for collaboration towards growth.
Ball State University’s Indiana Communities Institute team will come to Pulaski County for two multi-day courses for community members including elected officials, community leaders, and engaged citizens. The foundation will host the Community Development Course June 7-9, followed by Community Based Action Planning in early August. The focus will be on translating identified possibilities into action with ongoing coaching support.
After being postponed due to COVID, the much-anticipated Leadership Pulaski County program through Purdue Extension will kick off classes beginning Aug. 19 and running through Nov. 18.
In October, the Community Foundation will also host a training entitled “So You Want to Be an Elected Official?” which is targeted for newer elected officials or those who are thinking about running for an elected office.

About the Forward Thinking Leadership Initiative
The Community Foundation launched this aggressive three-year plan in 2020 with a Lilly Endowment GIFT Phase VII grant. The initiative was developed in response to community input through conversations held around the county. Four key areas of aspiration emerged, with the Community Foundation focusing its efforts on the need for visionary leadership and forward momentum for Pulaski County. The forward-thinking leadership initiative provides opportunities for the community to grow its leadership strengths and focus on investing in community action for the future good of Pulaski County.
