Each inductee was nominated and then voted on by the Hall of Fame Committee. Each inductee will receive a plaque, and an identical plaque will be placed in the Athletic Hall of Fame trophy case for display.

The inductees for the Class of 2021 are:

Stephanie (Roth) Smith was a 1989 graduate who participated in cross country, basketball, and track. The first three years of her cross country career were spent competing with the boys as she was the school’s first and only female runner on a sectional championship-caliber team. She was a perennial All-Conference selection runner throughout her career and helped lead to the formation of a full five-member girls cross country team. In basketball, Stephanie was known as a defensive-minded point guard. One of her most outstanding moments came when she held a 26-point averaging future Miss Basketball to only four points. She currently holds the record for single game steals, and once held the record for season and career steals as well. Her impact to the program is also demonstrated through her MVP and captain honors during her junior and senior seasons. As a freshman track and field athlete, Stephanie went undefeated in the 1600 meter run. As a sophomore, she advanced to semi-state, and has held records in the 800, 1600, and 3200 meter runs. Overall, she has been a part of five sectional championships.

Her favorite memories consist of times with her teammates and three amazing coaches: Jerry Jones, Jim Swaney and Clark Miller. She says that these influential people impacted the person, teacher, and coach she is today. Currently, she lives in Monterey, and teaches third grade at Eastern Pulaski Elementary School. She also coaches softball and girls basketball where she brings her hard work and dedication back to what she loves.

David Minix was a two-sport athlete at Winamac Community High School. He graduated from Winamac in 2009. He participated in wrestling and football for four years. In wrestling, David was a four-time sectional champion, two-time regional champion, three-time semi-state qualifier, two-time state qualifier, and three-time Midwest Conference champion. David still holds two wrestling records at Winamac, most career and most single-season takedowns. He also ranks third in career falls and second in career wins with 143. He was also selected to the First Team All-Midwest Conference.

David's fondest memory from high school athletics was the excitement when competing and playing as well as making friends along the way. He appreciates being taught the importance of hard work, dedication, and loyalty and how it has made him the man he is today. David still resides in Winamac and is employed as a crane operator. He is married to Merrissa Minix, and they have two children, Micheal and Bryden.

Everett Potts is being inducted into the Winamac Athletic Hall of Fame as a program contributor. He graduated from French Lick high school where he played basketball for four years. He has been a contributor to the Winamac Community for over 30 years. In football he worked for the chain gang for over 10 years, assisted running the scoreboard for 20 years and assisted with traffic control. In basketball he was a ticket taker, assisted with supervision for 20 years and has been the officials’ and visiting teams host. He also worked several basketball and football sectional games. Everett was married to Marie Richter Potts until her passing in 2007. They have three children, Suzanne, Kevin, and Lisa. Everett has been retired from Galbreath Inc. since 2003.

Everett’s fondest memories from Winamac were being the treasurer of the Winamac Athletic Boosters while watching and getting to know all of the players. He always showed up early and stayed late to help out at events and was always in the stands cheering on the Warriors.

Rick Schultz participated in football and baseball during his career at WCHS, where he had many accomplishments. In football, he was the leading team scorer in 1973-74, a member of the Northwest Hoosier All-Conference team in 1972-74, fifth all-time for rushing yards in a game, ninth all-time for points scored in a season, and 10th all-time for rushing yards in a season. He was also a member of the South Bend Tribune All-Area team in 1972 and 1973. In baseball, he was a member of the Northwest Hoosier Conference All-star team in 1973 and still holds the stolen base record at Winamac. Rick received a lot of interest and scholarship opportunities from prestigious colleges to continue his athletic career, but unfortunately was unable to do so because of an injury.

Some of his favorite memories from high school include playing with some amazing friends and athletes and having Jack Hendryx as a coach. He and wife Cheryl have three children, Ashley Olson, Brooke Browning, and Chelsea Maxwell. He currently resides in Star City with his wife where he proudly works as a farmer.

About the Winamac Athletic Council

The first Winamac Athletic Hall of Fame class was inducted in 2015.

The Athletic Council is made up of all head coaches and the athletic director. The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to honor and recognize the best of the best from Winamac Athletics.  A person can be nominated in three different categories: as a player, a coach or a contributor. A contributor is someone who has helped or assisted the Athletic Department through announcing, grounds keeping, keeping the scoreboard, etc. Anyone winning an individual state championship is automatically inducted.

Ten persons were inducted the first year. The Athletic Council also decided when creating the Hall of Fame to limit the number of athlete inductees after the first year to three in order to keep worthy candidates for future classes.
