With a budget of almost $4,000, Winamac Kiwanis Club members completed their 2020 shopping trip Saturday (Dec. 5) with 53 children from 23 families from the local area. The project was chaired by club member Kim Hanson (center). Also participating were Gregg Malott (left) and Mike Shurn. They are shown with assisting store employees at Walmart in Monticello. |
The shopping was completed, through special arrangements, at WalMart in Monticello.
Kiwanis member Kim Hanson chaired the event. Fellow club member Mike Shurn participated as the Kiwanis Arrowhead Division Lt. Governor, while club treasurer Gregg Malott also attended. Shurn checked the families into the checkout line, Hanson processed the apparel items for checkout, and Malott handled the finances. Each child was allotted $70 to purchase clothing.
Two young store employees performed the checkout and sacking, while a supervisor provided technical expertise for the checkout. Shurn reported “Walmart was very organized and a pleasure to work with.”
The Winamac Kiwanis Club was chartered in 1921 and will observe its 100th anniversary next year. The 2020-21 president is Kelsie Zellers, and president-elect is Fr. Leroy Kinnaman.
