To that end, the Foundation has created an aggressive three-year implementation plan which will provide opportunities for the community to grow its leadership strengths and move to investing in community action for the future good of Pulaski County.
In order to fully fund this important initiative, the Foundation will pursue investment from local partners in addition to Lilly Endowment funding. Together, these steps will demonstrate community commitment to the initiative over the 3-year time span. Initiative components include:
- Funding a Leadership Pulaski County Coordinator
- Providing a two-day Community Development Course through Ball State University’s Indiana Communities Institute (ICI) for up to 30 community members
- Providing an Indiana Communities Institute Community-Led Action Course to identify and create action plans; this includes coaching support for up to one year
- Offering or supporting Elected Official training sessions
- Providing an annual event to educate interested individuals about becoming an elected official
- Offering a high-quality Nonprofit Management Training Series to improve skills and effectiveness of local nonprofit leaders and their organizations
- Communicating participation and progress of the leadership initiative
- Funding a Project Coordinator
A project of this magnitude takes many community partners, and the Foundation is extremely appreciative that the Pulaski County Council has already committed financial support. To date, other collaborators and financial partners in this endeavor include Pulaski County Community Development Commission (Nathan Origer) and Purdue Extension – Pulaski County (Samantha Williams). Consultant Amy Beechy of Project Matters, LLC, will serve as project coordinator for the Forward Thinking Leadership Initiative. Project Matters is uniquely qualified for this process through their prior work with the Foundation in the Community Conversation and grant planning processes.
“The Community Foundation has laid the groundwork for an aggressive plan for positive change in our county,” Ms. Rose emphasized. “The time is now to make a difference, and the board recognizes that the issues our community faces are large and complex. Change will not be swift or easy; however, the Forward Thinking Leadership Initiative offers a chance to turn the tide, impact attitudes, actions, and our future. We look forward to beginning this initiative.”
