Zylstra succeeds Don Street, who will assume the superintendent position at Kankakee Valley School Corporation on July 1.
Zylstra came to West Central in August 2012. Before that, he was a music education teacher at the School City of Hammond for five years and Lansing Christian School for one year.
He graduated from Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA with a B.A. in choral music and elementary music education in May 2005. He earned his Master’s in Education in May 2010 from the University of Illinois. In May 2017, Zylstra earned his Specialist in Education from Indiana University. He is currently working towards a doctorate in education from Indiana University.
West Central School Board president Todd Miller said the school board has seen Zylstra’s dedication to the students of West Central and the board has confidence he will continue to expand the outstanding educational opportunities for the students.
Zylstra and his wife Lisa have been married for 12 years. They live in Francesville with their four children, Emily, Caroline, Paul, and Joseph.
