Street also said student enrollment is down about 20 students from last year, which also affects funding from the state. She shared class size data from area schools, and said West Central's numbers are similar to other school districts.
Special Education enrollment was also provided to the school board.
In other business, future building needs and maintenance were shared and discussed. Some of those areas include the music class areas, water projects and software for HVAC and other system controls. Street noted that the timing of these projects will be developed in a three-year Capital Projects Plan.
Street also reported on the following:
- Cafeteria updates and information have been provided by Mrs. Murray.
- WCSC was compliant during its IDOE school corporation building safety audit.
- WCSC is involved with potential Wabash Heartland Innovation Network (WHIN) grants.
- The wind turbine maintenance is being conducted.

The board approved the field trip request of the Art Club to visit the Chicago Art Museum - request made by Shane Pack.
Other business:
The board voted to approve the 2019-20 school board meeting dates.
The board voted to add Analytical Algebra II to the course description book
Student of the month certificates were presented to Aiden Shonk at the elementary and Alex Lynch at the middle school level. Blayden Huber was unable to attend for the high school level.
Community Comments: Bobby Berrier, president of the West Central Music Boosters, presented on needs of the music department.
Principal Reports
Elementary school principal Dan Zylstra reported that the Dance Development Academy will present a recital at the school the afternoon of Wednesday, March 13.
West Central Elementary will hold its Perfect Attendance Lunches on March 14 & 15 for all students who were neither absent, nor tardy during the third quarter.
Third-grade students will take IREAD3 on March 18 & 19.
Mrs. Adams and the fourth- and fifth-grade students will put on the show “Seussical - a Dr. Seuss Musical” at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 19.
The PTC has been looking into grants to potentially purchase more playground equipment. Student Council will hold a “Pajamas for the Playground” fundraiser day on March 22 to support this.
Book Fair is scheduled for the week of April 1. Kindergarten Roundup is schedule for Thursday, April 4.
For professional development, teachers have spent more time on social-emotional learning, and Kasey Lowry has presented on information she learned after attending training on Dyslexia.
Middle/high school principal Scott Ritchie shared that over the last month many great things have happened at West Central Middle/High School.
The school hosted the boys’ basketball sectional. Richie said the event went off great and had a lot of compliments from the patrons who attended.
ISTEP round one has started for 10th graders. Along that line the remediation program is off and running for the seventh- and eighth-grade.
The teachers have worked hard on their SLO’s and curriculum alignment. the math teachers met a vendor who explained how they could help streamline the math curriculum concerning alignment.
Richie will judge the extemporaneous speaking portion of the FFA regional skills competition on March 16.
