In addition to serving as one of the hosts for “Outdoor Elements,” Laudeman is also the interpretive naturalist at Indiana Dunes State Park.
Hinkel discussed with Laudeman the significance of fire towers in Indiana on one show which can be watched here. Hinkel shared information on when the fire towers were built, what was their purpose, and if they are still being used today.
On another show, Gillum was interviewed about structures built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during the Great Depression. (Watch here.) The segment takes a look at some of the WPA structures built at Tippecanoe River State Park, and answers the questions, When and why were they built? And what is their lasting impact on our parks?
“Outdoor Elements” viewers explore the region’s parks, lakes, forests, dunes and more without leaving home. Along the way program hosts and guests share their considerable knowledge on things like ant lions, aquatic mammals, bald eagles, beetles, turtles and salamanders to name a few. They’ll also share information on activities like fat tire biking, cross country skiing and more. “Outdoor Elements” airs on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m.
