Over the past several months, ISDH has been working with a private company, VaxCare, to facilitate a method that would allow health departments to continue vaccinating insured individuals. The Pulaski County Health Department is one of 20 counties enrolled with VaxCare and a total of 35 counties are committed to enroll. VaxCare is a preventive healthcare provider specializing in immunization services. They supply the vaccines and the equipment to administer the vaccines. VaxCare also handles insurance billing and will bill clients for the required insurance co-payments and deductibles.
The health department will be doing insurance eligibility checks prior to vaccinating. The eligibility check only verifies that an individual has health insurance.
The Pulaski County Health Department will be asking for the name of your insurance company and health plan ID number when appointments are made. Having this information prior to appointments may help to ease this transition. Insurance cards will be required at appointment time. This transition is expected to begin the middle of February.
The following insurance plans are currently eligible: Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, Dunn & Associates, Humana, Medicare B, Medicare Railroad, Patoka Valley Health Care Co-op, Southeastern Ind. Health Organization, United Healthcare and UMWA.
The health department will continue to bill Medicaid, for eligible individuals.
Immunization days at the Pulaski County Health Department are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 to 4 p.m., by appointment. (574) 946-6080.
