Kenneth O. Good

May 31, 1924 to April 8, 2016

WINAMAC - A graveside service has been set for Kenneth Omer “K.O.” Good, 91, of Indianola, IA (formerly of Winamac) who died Friday, April 8, 2016, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines.

He was born May 31, 1924, the son of the late John Allen and Doris “Flossie” Freeman Good,  on a farm in Pulaski County. He married his best friend’s sister, Phyllis A. Bonnell, on Sept. 28, 1947, in rural Pulaski County. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Lynn (Steve) Hakeman of Indianola, IA and Martha (Phil Slade) Winegarden of Solon, IA and one son, John (fiancée Stephanie Fox), of Boise, ID; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Jamie) Bradfield of Indianola, IA, Kristine Winegarden of Houston, TX, Molly (Travis) Wright of Alpharetta, GA, Heidi (Bryan) Labertew of Indianola, IA, and Kathryn (Steve Garcia) Winegarden of Houston, TX; five great grandchildren, Elaina, Max, Keira, Lauren and Talia; sister-in-law, Edna Bonnell of Winamac; brother-in-law, Carl Anspach of Winamac; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Ira and Darl, and sister, Dorothy Anspach.

Mr. Good graduated from Pulaski High School in 1942 and later that year enlisted in the Army Air Corps, serving until Jan. 1946. While in the service he attended radio operator and mechanic school at Scott Field, IL and Aviation Cadet training in Texas. He trained as a fighter pilot, flying P-40s in Florida prior to being sent to China where he flew the P-41 Mustang in the 14th Air Force, under General Claire Chenault. Following his discharge from service, he farmed for two years with his father. He then attended Hanover College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1951 and going on to earn his master’s degree in social work from Indiana University.

Over the years, the couple made their home in Boise, ID; Humboldt, IA; Winamac; and Horseshoe Bend, AR before moving to Indianola in March of 2015. Mr. Good began his career with the Veterans Administration in Boise, before working as a community consultant with Woodward State Hospital-School in Iowa. In 1969, he joined a newly formed three-county Mental Health Center in Fort Dodge, IA, and he later worked as a mental health therapist in a private psychiatrist’s office until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed golf, bowling, horseshoe pitching, fishing, cards (especially bridge), and golf - on three occasions shooting his age - at age 74, 81 and 87. 

Mr. Good donated his body to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine,

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 at Pulaski Presbyterian Cemetery in Pulaski. Interment of cremated remains will take place at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Good’s name to the veterans organization of the donor’s choice.

Irene I. Walter

February 24, 1926 to April 18, 2016

FRANCESVILLE - Irene Ida Cords Walter, 90, passed away Monday, April 18, in Sun City, AZ.

She was born on Feb. 24, 1926, in Francesville, to the late William and Minnie Kruger Cords.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Judy and Tom Alston of Belleville IL; Donna and George Duda of Albuquerque, NM; Bill and Shere Walter of Sun City; and Linda and Rick Knight of Cave Creek, AZ. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard and Judy Cords of Medaryville and Merl Cords of Medaryville; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Cords of Lafayette; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Cords; sister, Leona Utterback; and infant brother, Ralph. 

Mrs. Walter graduated from Medaryville High School in 1944 and attended Beauty School in Phoenix, AZ in 1946. She loved being a Bible study leader, coordinator for Community Bible Study, and she received Volunteer of the Year with Hospice of the Valley. She was an active member of American Lutheran Church in Phoenix and later at American Lutheran Church of Sun City. She received great joy in sharing her strong faith and love of the Lord. Her heart and door were always open to all. She loved sharing her beautiful roses and amaryllises. Her family and many friendships were a treasured value in her life.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, at St. James Salem United Church of Christ, Francesville, with Rev. Judith Doll officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. James Salem Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. James Salem United Church of Christ, Francesville IN.

Paul F. Werner

February 10, 1927 to April 21, 2016

MEDARYVILLE - Paul F. Werner, 89, of Medaryville, passed away at 11:33 a.m., Thursday, April 21, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville.

Hel was born on Feb. 10, 1927 in Reynolds, to the late William and Elizabeth Heimlich Werner. On June 4, 1950, he married JoAnn May Ricks at the Francesville Methodist Church. She survives.

Mr. Werner was a member of the Medaryville Methodist Church. He raised livestock, farmed, and was a seed salesman. He loved to garden and do woodwork. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in years past. He had formerly worked at Mayhew Coal & Grain in Medaryville for 28 years. He was a lifetime member of the Medaryville Lions Club. He was a former member of the White Post Township Advisory Board. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 23, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville. A Lions Memorial Service will take place at 11 a.m, at the funeral home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. (Saturday, April 23) at the funeral home with Pastor Hal Cohn officiating. Burial will be at White Post Cemetery, Medaryville.

Memorial donations may be given to Medaryville Lions Club or Medaryville Methodist Church.

Mary Lou Bonnell

April 3, 1934 to April 18, 2016

WINAMAC - Mary Lou Poor Bonnell, 82, of Winamac, passed away at 8:30 p.m., Monday, April 18, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born on April 3, 1934 in Winamac to the late Harry and Geraldine Trapp Poor. On Sept. 10, 1971, she married Paul Bonnell in Monticello. He preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 2010.

Mrs. Bonnell was a graduate of Winamac High School. She and her husband owned and operated Rich's Cafe as well as South 40 Restaurant and Lounge in Winamac for over 31 years. They enjoyed mushroom hunting, traveling, and visiting horse tracks and casinos. People will always remember their generosity for hosting the annual mushroom fry at Rich's. During the Ford Pinto Trial, the Bonnells put up reporters at their own home. They were generous and kind and never knew a stranger. Mrs. Bonnell was a mother to many. She was always there with an open heart and ear with many words of wisdom. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very much. She supported her grandchildren and great grandchildren in all they did and was a true Winamac Warriors fan. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, April 21, at the funeral home. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial donations may be given to Southern Care Hospice or St. Jude's Children's Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice.

John E. Ringen

May 12, 1926 to April 16, 2016

WINAMAC - John Edward Ringen, 89, of Winamac, passed away at 6:30 a.m., Saturday, April 16, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.

He was born May 12, 1926 to the late Grover Lewis and Anna Marie Garling Ringen. He married Shirley Marie Tanner on Nov. 28, 1946 in Francesville. She died June 2, 2008.

He is survived by daughters Nancy Lee (Steven) Werner, Lafayette, and Connie L. (Phil) Brucker, Winamac; and sons Dennis E. (Cathy) Ringen, and Danny D. (Linda) Ringen. He also had 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

Mr. Ringen and his wife began their married life working a chicken farm. They later raised their own chickens and sold many hundreds of eggs. He was a farmer for many years with help from his wife driving a tractor right along side of him. He also worked at the Monterey Lumber Yard and Buckeye Feed and Supply for several years. His real passion was being a tractor mechanic. After working many years in Winamac, Logansport and Knox as a Ford tractor mechanic, he was able to start his own business, Ringen Tractor Repair, at his home in Monterey. He also drove a school bus for Culver schools for nearly 39 years. He truly loved his riders. He was a gentle giant (in heart) , who could laugh with the kids and still keep order. The Ringens last attended the Global Harvest Church at Bass Station. Even after her death, Mr. Ringen seldom missed Sunday services.  He loved the people there . He was so appreciative of those who would walk him from his car into the church and back again after the service.

When Mr. Ringen wasn’t working, he and his wife would do everything together. One of their favorite pass times was antique shopping, even if they never bought anything. They loved to reminisce of the by-gone days. Their greatest joy was when the family was gathered around the dinner table for holidays, birthdays and “any excuse” days. For many years these gatherings were held in their garage/vintage kitchen. Meals were lovingly prepared on a wood burning stove. They were enjoyed by all. Later in life the couple enjoyed meeting with friends at McDonalds in Winamac for evening meals. Those who knew Mr. Ringen will remember his laugh. It was one-of-a-kind and was so contagious. As a young man he loved roller skating and dancing the jitter bug. He had a hidden talent that many may not have known - he could yodel. The last to hear him yodel were his doctor and nurse at the hospital in Rochester. His Saturday evening highlight was watching the RFD TV channel and watching polka dancers. Even though his knees eventually kept him from the joys of dancing, his shoulders would still move to the music and they often did. He now dances and laughs in heaven. He will be deeply missed by many until we all meet again.

Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Valentine F. Reinhold Jr.

June 11, 1924 to April 13, 2016

WINAMAC - Valentine F. “Junior” Reinhold Jr., 91, a lifelong resident of the Monterey area, passed away at 10 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. 

He was born June 11, 1924 in Monterey to the late Valentine and Mabel Bitterling Reinhold Sr. He married his high school sweetheart Esther Mack on Sept. 23, 1944, at the Methodist parsonage, Winamac. They celebrated their 71st anniversary in 2015. She survives.

Also surviving are children, Christine (Richard) Earp of Rochester and Valentine "Fred" (Elaine) Reinhold of Monterey; his grandchildren, Ronald (Kelly) Reinhold, Jacob (Amy) Koepkey, Ross (Nicole) Earp, Allison (Randy Kopka) Earp, Brian (Susan) Hessong, and Scott (Sydny) Hessong; his great-grandchildren, Austin (Ali) Reinhold, Scottlynne Reinhold, Reilly Reinhold, Logan Koepkey, Griffin Koepkey, Madelyn Koepkey, Sawyer Koepkey, Maci Earp, Maddison Earp, Darian Reinhold, Michael Demonja, Anthony Demonja, Herbert Hessong, Kenneth Hessong, Amelia Hessong, Stephanie Hessong, Shaynah Hessong, and Rhonda Reinhold; and siblings, Judith Ann (Howard) Carlisle of Argos; Lowell Reinhold of Winamac; Hubert Reinhold of Goshen; Byron (Nancy) Reinhold of South Bend; and David (Vivian) Reinhold of Kewanna; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Reinhold; his grandson, Robert Reinhold; and sisters, Kathryn Corbett and Elsie Tuley. 

Mr. Reinhold graduated from Monterey High School in 1942. He was a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church. He also belonged to the American Milk Producers, Inc. He was a longtime farmer, following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father. He loved his land and often spoke of days spent farming with horses. He also had a dairy herd for many years and did custom farm work for area farmers. He was also a bus driver for Monterey schools and for Culver schools for 39 years. He looked forward to the Christmas holiday when he would give treats to his riders. For years he was responsible for  transporting the government school food for all schools in Pulaski County.

Mr. Reinhold and his wife were never far from each other. They were even together at his death, side by side. They were so appreciative of each other, never missing each other's birthday or anniversary without a gift for each other. He was Esther's best friend. He enjoyed gardening, camping, cutting wood, and spending time on the beach in Florida. He also enjoyed watching TV, especially college basketball. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, April 18, at Monterey United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., at the church. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial donations may be given to Monterey United Methodist Church, Alzheimer's Association or ALS Foundation.
