WINAMAC – The Eastern Pulaski Community School Board heard reports on the start-of-school and transfer tuition policy at its monthly meeting Monday (July 8).

The board also learned that, while the school corporation is currently in good financial condition, the future continues to hold budget and funding challenges.

INDIANAPOLIS – Gov. Mike Pence Tuesday (July 9) named appointees to the Indiana Career Council, a 16-member board chaired by the Governor that will increase coordination among those who work on the state’s education, jobs skills development and career training system.

“The time has come to begin to address Indiana’s skills gap,” said Governor Pence. “I am grateful to the individuals appointed today to the Indiana Career Council for their commitment to bring this goal to fruition. Their breadth and depth of experience make them uniquely qualified to drive comprehensive review, reform and realignment of educational, career training and job skills development efforts for the benefit and betterment of Indiana’s workforce."

The White House on Tuesday (July 2) delayed for one year a requirement under the Affordable Care Act that larger businesses provide health insurance to employees, as the landmark healthcare legislation otherwise continues to phase in.

The provision, commonly known as the employer mandate, requires businesses with 50 or more employees to provide affordable quality insurance to workers or pay a $2,000 fine per employee. Business organizations had objected to the requirement, which has now been pushed back to take effect in January 2015.
