Harvest season winds down, significantly ahead of five-year averages

There were 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Nov. 10.

Despite rainfall during the previous week, the soil remained drier than usual due to exceptionally warm fall weather and persistent lack of precipitation. Many burn bans have been lifted. Corn and soybean harvest progress ended the week at 94 and 96 percent, respectively, which was significantly ahead of the five-year averages.

Winter wheat condition was stable with 62 percent of the crop rated in good to excellent condition. However, some planted winter wheat was reported to be struggling to emerge due to a lack of moisture.

Other activities last week included fall tillage, planting cover crops, hauling grain, and applying lime and manure.
