Edith M. Kenyon Stevens
January 10, 1942 to May 3, 2022
WINGATE - Edith Mae Kenyon Stevens, 97 passed away at 10:25 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home, Francesville.
She was born Jan. 10, 1925 in Lafayette to the late Frank and Mildred Spangler Kenyon. She was a 1942 graduate of Medaryville High School. She married James Stevens in the Brown Street Methodist Church, Lafayette, April 11, 1946, and he preceded her in death Jan. 14, 1960.

Surviving are three sons, Bruce Stevens of LaPorte, Mark (Malva) Stevens of Francesville, Gary (Barbara) Stevens of Culver; a daughter-in-law Linda Hale Stevens of Francesville; nine grandchildren, Cris Stevens of Clermont, Fl, Susan Stevens of Michigan City, Scott (Nikki) Stevens of Wolcott, Todd (Wendi) Stevens of Rensselaer, Brad (Erica) Stevens of Francesville, Jill (Shawn) Roser of Valparaiso, Matthew (Lisa) Stevens of Tamapa, Fl, Brett Stevens of Indianapolis, and Lindsey (Justin) Kletz of Francesville. Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand-son.
She was preceded in death by a son Terry Stevens, and daughter-in-law Janis Minniear Stevens.
After their marriage, the Stevenses purchased a small farm west of Francesville next to his parents Ray and Victoria Stevens. Following her husband’s untimely death, Edith worked several jobs to support her family. For many years she was employed as secretary for the Jasper County Extension Office in Rensselaer. She served as a teacher’s aide in Gillam Grade School and West Central Elementary Schools for several years where she loved the students and they loved her. She concluded her working years as a courier/delivery driver for People’s State Bank (now Alliance Bank) in Francesville. She remained on the family farm in Gillam Township until moving to Parkview Haven.
Mrs. Stevens was a devout Christian which served her well as she faced the challenges and adversities of raising her four boys on the farm. She had attended the former Independence Methodist Church in Gillam Township, Francesville United Methodist Church and more recently the St. James United Church of Christ. She supported and encouraged her boys in school, sports, 4-H and Sunday School.
Visitation hours will be 1 to 3 p.m.,Tuesday, May 10, with funeral services following at 3 p.m., with Pastor Judy Doll officiating at St. James United Church of Christ (10934 CR. 600 South, Fancesville). Interment will follow in Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.
