Phyllis L. Woodward
May 23, 1929 to March 4, 2012
CULVER - Phyllis Lou Woodward, 82, of Monterey, passed away at 11:12 p.m., Sunday, March 4, at the Heart Center of Indiana in Indianapolis.
She was born May 23, 1929 in Winamac to Jonathan and Ruth (Miller) Powers. Her mother passed away when Phyllis was only two years old. Phyllis married Max William Woodward on July 16, 1949, in Knox. He preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 1991.
Survivors include daughters Sherry (Tom) Hunneshagen and Renita (Jim) Potthoff of Monterey, and Kim Woodward of Plano, Texas; grandchildren Kellie (Pete) Manzuk, Mike Potthoff, Jason (Monica) Potthoff, Jenny (Rob) Hurford, Krista (Brandon) Van Horn, Colin Ackerman, and Lauren Ackerman; and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Carol Lynn, brother Gene Powers; and sisters Betty Millard, Anne Bissell, Edith Olds, and Helen Decker.
Mrs. Woodward worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years. She was also a teller at the First National Bank for 10 years. She was a member of a ladies bowling league. She also enjoyed playing cards, particularly euchre, as well as Notre Dame sports and the Chicago Cubs. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Monterey.
A time of sharing memories with the family will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, with a spiritual wake service at 7 p.m. Father Bert Woolson will officiate a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m., Friday (March 9), at the St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Monterey. Burial will follow at the St. Anne’s Cemetery, Monterey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Monterey.
