Florida Bailey

June 14, 1921 to June 3, 2016

RENSSELAER - Florida Bailey, 94, of Bailey’s Corner, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016, at her home.

She was born June 14, 1921, in DeCoy, Ky., daughter of the late Kelley and Verdie Smith Stone. She grew up in Kentucky and moved to Jasper County at the age of 18. On Sept. 25, 1941, in Rensselaer, she married Jess Willard Bailey. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2001.

She is survived by children: Gerri (Claude) Napier of Rensselaer, Charles “Beetle” (Peggy) Bailey of Winchester, Ky., Brenda (Paul) Denham of Rensselaer, Susie (Jim) Wall of Medaryville, and Nathian (Sonya) Bailey of Bailey’s Corner; one sister, Maxine Heims of Francesville; two brothers, Herman Stone of Rensselaer and Therman (Darlene) Stone of Bailey’s Corner; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara Owens and Betty Jean Kessler; and four sisters: Carmelle Owsley, Gladys Stepp, Alma Wireman, and Lorraine Bailey.

Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker and a pastor’s wife. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a strong faith in God. She loved reading her Bible and attending church with her family. She enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits and vegetables she grew in her garden. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. She was a talented quilter and made beautiful quilts. In her younger days, she enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. She was a kind, good-natured person who never met a stranger.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. (CT), Tuesday, June 7, at the United Baptist Church of Gillam Township in Bailey’s Corner. A Celebration of Life service will be at 6 p.m. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., (CT), Wednesday, June 8, at the church with Pastor John Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Independence Cemetery. A funeral dinner will be held at the church following interment.

Memorials may be made to Franciscan Home Health Care & Hospice or the United Baptist Church of Gillam Township.

Nubert E. Eudy

February 12, 1927 to June 4, 2016

WINAMAC - Nubert Eugene "Tunney" Eudy, 89, of Logansport, passed away Saturday, June 4, at home with his family by his side.  

He was born Feb. 12, 1927 in Salisbury, NC to the late Andy and Ida C. Sanders Eudy. On May 28, 1988, he married Elaine Horn in Winamac. She survives.

Mr. Eudy served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and Korea. He was a member of the VFW Post #1728 and American Legion Post #71 of Winamac. He was proud to have been a part of an Honor Flight in 2014. He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Winamac where he had served as a Deacon for many years. He was 50-year member of the Winamac Masonic Lodge #262 F&AM and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend. He was a retired custodian from Eastern Pulaski Schools and also painted on the side during the summer. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching baseball. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with his dog, Oreo. He loved his family very much, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. Masonic services will be at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, at the funeral home with Pastors Jeff Seger and Rick Abbott officiating. urial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services.

MEDARYVILLE - Branden Michael Conley, 23, of Medaryville, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, May 27.

He was born May 2, 1993 in Rensselaer, to Gregory and Tammy Conley who survive.

Mr. Conley graduated from West Central High School in 2012 where he had been very involved with activities including sporting events and art club. He was instrumental in the creation of the Life Skills Class and Pulaski County Special Olympics. He was beloved by his classmates and was well known for his school spirit. He was a member of Teaberry Hill Estates Church. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was baptized in 2013. He enjoyed music, carshows, and tractor pulls. He never knew a stranger and was well known as a "flirt". Branden touched everyone's heart with a sparkle in his eye and his infectious smile.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel Francesville, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 2, at Teaberry Hill Estates Church, Medaryville, with Rev. Elmer Conley officiating. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.

Memorial donations may be given to West Central Life Skills or Pulaski County Special Olympics.

Marjorie E. Coburn

WINAMAC - Marjorie E. "Marge" Coburn, 94, of Monticello, formerly of Medaryville, died at 8:54 p.m., Saturday, May 28, at Monticello Healthcare, Monticello.

She was born Dec. 6, 1921 in rural Cass Township of Pulaski County, daughter of the late Robert and Edna Brown Timm.

Mrs. Coburn was a graduate of Medaryville High School. She served as Clerk Treasurer for the Town of Medaryville for 20 years and also was the longtime manager of Ahlers Electric and Hardware in Medaryville. She was a member of the Medaryville United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Medaryville OES. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 3, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel Medaryville, with Pastor Tod Masters officiating. Private burial will be at a later date.

Rose M. Overton

March 18, 1934 to ay 14, 2016

FRANCESVILLE - Rose M. Overton, 82, of Francesville, passed away at 8:37 p.m., Saturday, May 14, at her residence.

She was born March 18, 1934, in Washington, DC, to the late Thomas and Rose H. Worrell LaMone. She married Jack L. Overton on June 23, 1956 in Rensselaer. He survives.

Also surviving are: sons Lloyd Tom (Jane) Overton, Monon,  Stephen J. (Cathy) Overton, Francesville, and Bob L. Overton, Francesville; 13 Grandchildren, 16 Great grandchildren; and sister Betty Anne Foxworthy, Georgetown, SC.

She is preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Mrs. Overton was a member of the First Christian Church of Francesville. She was a homemaker and had worked 38 years as a custodian for West Central Schools. She enjoyed Cubs baseball and going to casinos. She especially enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., (Tuesday, May 17), with Pastor James Ketchen officiating.  Burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date in Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.

Memorial donations may be given to First Christian Church of Francesville.

Jackie L. Shoemaker

April 25, 1938 to May 12, 2016

WINAMAC - Jackie Lee "Jack" Shoemaker, 78, of Loganspor (formerly of Star City and Kewanna), passed away at 3:20 p.m., Thursday, May 12, at Miller's Merry Manor, Logansport.

He was born April 25, 1938 in Andrews, IN to the late Franklin A. and Mary Lucille Brown Shoemaker.

In 1956, Jack joined the US Army and while in service he received his GED from the Armed Forces Institute.  He was a lifelong truck driver.  In 1971, Jack received a Gas and Arc Welding diploma from Lewis Cass High School. He was a member of the Catholic faith. He was a former Eagle Scout and Boy Scout Leader.  He was also a former member of the Tipton Lodge #33 F&AM.  He was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was also a member of Moose Lodge #232, Fraternal Order of Eagles #2580, American Legion #60, and VFW Men's Auxiliary #3790. He was a competitive shooter and marksman.  He enjoyed  the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. He will be missed. 

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, May 16, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. The American Legion and VFW will conduct full military honors at the funeral home. Private burial will be at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery South, Pulaski.

Memorial donations may be given to the funeral home to help the family with funeral expenses.
