Josie M. Smith

June 25, 1935 to October 8, 2016

WINAMAC - Josie M. Smith, 81, of Winamac, passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, at Porter Regional Hospital, Valparaiso.

She was born June 25, 1935 in Marmaduke, Ark. to the late Homer and Ruby Frost Jarvis. On Oct. 20, 1956, she married Harold L. Smith, in Mishawaka. He survives.

Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Mishawaka High School. She studied at Olivet Nazarene College and went on to obtain a bachelor's degree from Indiana University South Bend. 
She was a former employee of McGill's in Culver, and Monticello. She had been an active member of the Winamac Church of the Nazarene, where she had been involved with the children's ministry through Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. She enjoyed painting and was an accomplished artist. She also enjoyed genealogy. 
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Gladding officiating. Burial will be at Reed Cemetery, Winamac.

Evelyn R. Barngrover

January 15, 1920 to October 9, 2016

FRANCESVILLE - Evelyn R. Barngrover, 95, of Francesville, died at 11:03 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 9, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home, Francesville.

She was born Jan. 15, 1921 in Rensselaer, to the late Claude and Millie Ringeisen Reeves. On Dec. 25, 1941, she married Virgil "Jerry" Barngrover. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2000.

She is survived by: 
Jeffrey (Pat) Barngrover, Francesville, Son 
Robert (Alice) Barngrover, Sioux Falls, SD, Son 
7 Grandchildren 
11 Great Grandchildren

After completing high school, Mrs. Barngrover graduated from Southland College of Beauty Culture in 1941. She was very active in the Pulaski County Republican Central Committee for many years and served as past president of the Pulaski County Republican Women. She served in the Pulaski County Treasurer's office for over 20 years, having worked many years as a deputy and having been elected two terms as treasurer. She was a former vice president of Northwest District of County Treasurers Association. She had also served on the Francesville Library Board and also as Francesville Clerk-Treasurer. 

Mrs. Barngrover was a member of the Francesville United Methodist Church and had served as president of the United Methodist Women. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a loving wife and mother. As well as being active in the community, she was devoted to her sons. When her sons were young, she served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. Order of Eastern Star services will be held at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.

Donna J. Palmisano

August 11, 1935 to October 2, 2016

WINAMAC - Donna J. Palmisano, 81, of Winamac, passed away at 3:07 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 2, at Rensselaer Care Center, Rensselaer.

She was born Aug. 11, 1935 in Chicago, to the late Rocco and Jean Jorczak Calabrese.

She is survived by:

Mrs. Palmisano enjoyed sports and was an avid Notre Dame fan. She also enjoyed gardening. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Hers was a life lived by serving others.

No services will be held.

Mark J. Reid

June 26, 1960 to October 3, 2016

WINAMAC - Mark J. "Goob" Reid, 56, of Star City, passed awayat 2:19 p.m., Monday, Oct. 3, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.

He was born June 26, 1960 in Toledo, OH to Donald E. and Matilda J. Rustemeyer Reid.

Mr. Reid graduated from Winamac Community High School in 1979. When in high school he was a talented runner and held the school record for the track mile and half-mile for many years. He was an avid NASCAR and drag racing fan. He loved his dog, Blossom. He lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed bonfires, floating the river, fishing, hunting, and arrowhead hunting. He loved his family and friends very much. He will sadly missed.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, Oct. 8, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac.  A memorial service will followat 12 noon, Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. Burial will be at Winamac Cemetery, Winamac.

Richard L. Conn

April 11, 1954 to September 27, 2016

WINAMAC - Richard Lee Conn, 62, of Carmel, passed away at 10:45 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, at his residence. 

He was born April 11, 1954 in Logansport, to the late Harry R. and Forest G. Vanaman Conn. 

He is survived many family, friends, and colleagues who loved him and will miss him dearly. 

Mr. Conn graduated from Winamac Community High School in 1972. He earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science (cum laude) from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1976 and went on to earn a master of science degree in computer science from the University of Illinois in 1978. He was a retired engineering specialist at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Marietta, GA. After retirement he went on to work for Microsoft Research and Development as a liaison. He was a member of the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a captain while serving at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He had an impressive resume of service both to academia and the U.S. government. He designed computer software and was a published author. He was extremely intelligent and creative. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 262 F&AM and the First Christian Church, both in Winamac.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., at the funeral home with Rev. Glen Meyers officiating. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services.

Memorial donations may be made to the Community Foundation of Pulaski County for the Conn Family Scholarship.

Karen L. Bishop

January 31, 1971 to September 23, 2016

WINAMAC - Karen Lee Bishop, 45, of Winamac, passed away Friday, Sept. 23.

She was born Jan. 31, 1971 in Valparaiso.

She is survived by:

Mrs. Bishop lived life to the fullest. She especially enjoyed gardening, canoeing, and arrowhead and mushroom hunting. She was also an animal lover and was known to take in strays. She loved her family very much, especially her sons. She will be sadly missed.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, with Rev. Thomas Hopewell officiating.

Memorial donaions may be made to Bethel Bible Church, Winamac.

ROYAL CENTER - Sue Ann Snavley Shaw, 59, of Winamac passed away at 4:21 a.m., Monday Sept. 26, at her residence.

A memorial service will be at 4  p.m., Thursday, Sept. 29, at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel with Minister Chris Stevens officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will follow at Bell Center Cemetery, Idaville.
